Son had a couple friends over, and one was commenting (nicely) on my unfinished 1/2 ton in the shop area. Got me thinking. Its been a long time since BBT went doen the track. It will never see another tree, but I really miss racing. The thrill of it all, and the sense of acomplishment at making a goal. ABout damn time I got back into the game.

Yup Tom is on the sauce tonight lol! I feel the same way about the 2.6 pulling truck. I have been to one truck pull since fleeces pull after scheids 2 years ago. If I/we aren't pulling I don't want to even watch:(

I'm with Riley, ever since my buddy sold his truck, I bet I haven't been to a handful of pulls. Really missing it this summer. I'll likely never be able to afford to pull but I love going & hanging w/ friends who pull. It's not nearly as fun to just sit in the stands & watch by myself.

I've been becoming more & more interested in racing too though. Reason being is bc it can be as cheap or expensive a hobby as you want. But I've never raced before in my life.

Well chop chop Tom! Get on that shit!

I can't say I miss it. I still wonder if I can hit an 11 but drag racing ain't my road. I'd love to build a drag truck and know just how I'd do it but that would mean giving up the sand car and tracker and I enjoy those far too much. I don't know what I would do without an automotive hobby though. I'd probably go flippin nuts!

Tom, I wasn't making it to the track enough with the diesel organization and it's very expensive running Max'd Out at the track every weekend. I solved this by picking up a couple of LS1 Z-28s.

My 16 year old drives one of them, he got a cam for Christmas and installed it. He worked a lot and bought a exhaust and valve springs and installed them. Total for his car and all the parts 6000.00 and it runs 12.1's at 114mph. He drives the car daily and races most every weekend.

I picked up a very clean 2002 manual trans Z for 5000.00 and been beating the crap out of it at the drag strip. It's fun to just drive them to the track, run 10-15 passes and then drive them home. I know it's not diesel, but fun drag racing non the less.

Here is my son's car. His Grandma bought him some 150.00 used drag radials.

That is nice to see your son is into racing Rob.

My buddy let me run his LS-Camaro last time I was at the track, he took a stock car LS/Manual 6 speed and removed everything he could to lighten it.

The clutch clips a bit so it doesn't get full power to the rear tires consistently, but it was fun as hell and he paid $3200 for it.

I have been thinking of getting an older beater and just running it as well.

Those LS Camaro's are cheap and easy to work on.

Got any video's ??

Tom,

Just run your truck as it, its fun no matter what time you get out of it.

Riley, Oh yeah I was drinking. :hehe: Roni did me a solid and refilled my garage beer fridge with my favorite beverages. :) Eight of those later.....

Rob, I cant believe your kids are that old now. Heck, mine are 19 and 16 now. (Yes my insurance company just loves me) Amazing how fast time flies, isnt it?

Tony, Sorry man, low 11s or bust. 12s are so.......5 years ago. :roflmao: Got a co-worker who thinks his BB Dart can kick the 1500s butt (BBT already handed him his a few years ago), and another who thinks his 6.0LS Silverado can take it.

Adam, I got nothing other than my condolences. :roflmao:

Mitch, I have all the parts for the truck except the front coilovers and rear suspension setup. This 1500 isnt going to be completely a 1500 like Chris's. Its got more than a few 2500 parts on it. ;)

I was reading a build thread on another site, and the guy started to slow up due to the complexity of it all. Another member told him a simple thing: Do one small thing every day, or every week. Those little things will add up. Pretty soon the car will be done. I took that to heart.

Yeah, doing a little here & there will def get more done than never doing anything. Ask me how I know about the latter. My 83 is wasting to nothing as I continue to do nothing.

I need to get to the point I'm doing a little on it now again but I can't trim down the important honey-do's enough to have spare time to even give it a little time. Ugh.

Rob, nice to see your son enjoying it:woott:

My kids don't want anything to do with it. I don't if it's all the times they got taken to the track or what. Pat made Allison go to an Auto-X once thinking she may enjoy it. She made one lap and that was it. Tom get's his permit in a couple of weeks but I don't think he will want to race either :(

My wife doesn't like my racing or riding 4 wheelers. Therefore i get to do very little of either any more. My only hope is that in a few years when he is old enough my son enjoys these activities.

My kids were my pit crew back then. My daughter told me recently that she'd love to run my truck down the track. (She's 16). I told her I'd give her a chance if we get the 1500 together and tested out (obviously in a detuned mode). Yes, she's Daddy's girl. :)

My son, Im not really sure if he'd want to run or not. I think he'd be the engineer behind the project, as thats what he's studying at Michigan State. I could see that.

Tom, I have not raced since I sold my 2003. Keep thinking I want to get back to it, but priorities change. Still reading and tinkering with the 2011, but it will never become a race truck. I definitely miss that 2003 tho

Tom would be great to see your 1/2 ton completed. After I sold my race trucks I decided I wanted to try nostalgia racing. Bought myself a 61 Ford Falcon Gasser from a crooked cop in SoCal who had totally misrepresented it. Pretty much had to do a total rebuild of the engine and front end also move some stuff that wouldn't pass Tech although he said he raced like that at Bakersfield. It is a hoot to drive, (ask Rob he made a pass in it). But these NHRA racers are good. If you don't cut at least a .02x light and run within a couple of thousands of your dial, you are going to lose most of the time.:( Diesel racing wasn't that tight most of the time.:D

It's a crowd pleaser does a pretty awesome wheel stand. Run's high 10's in the 1/4 at around 122. Believe me it feels way faster than that., also can race most every weekend if I want.

Rob, what are you all doing with the gasser you all bought and drove cross-country in not long ago?!?!
