So during lunch break today I pressure washed my truck and instantly became pissed. I had a major rust on paint issue last year and the dealer cleaned it up and said it shouldnt come back. Well my entire truck is rust, anyone have this problem and know a permanent solution? (besides paint it a different color;)) I snaped some cellphone pics for now and I will post up more later once I am home from work. The spots look black in the pics but it is surface rust on the paint. Thanks members

If I remember right, it was called "rail dust". I had a few orange spots on my truck, last year. I took a clay bar to mine last fall. Been to cold to wash the truck around here lately so I have not had a chance to look. I believe that all the trucks do it, but it really only shows up on white. I just kind of figured it is something that I may have to live with.

Yes, he did. A Good buff and wax took them out. They haven't come back, but he sits in the shop next door when we are not driving him.

I was told it was rail dust also. The dealer did use a clay bar to get it out the first time and then buffed and waxed it and now it has come back ten X's worse. Do you guys think a new clear coat would seal it from coming back once its cleaned off? The weater hit 33 deg.f today so I rinced it off.

Yep I know that problem. Buff it out & comes back a month or 2 later. I wash my truck maybe 4 times a year cause of it, looks like ass after I wash it so I leave it dirty & its hardly noticeable

My truck has this also. Not as bad as yours that I've noticed, but the truck hasn't been washed in months. For me, waxing seems to help for a while.

Yup. Rail dust. Use the red colored clay bar on white it's more abrasive than the blue. Use blue for EVERYTHING else.

Only happens to me in the winter because of the salt and stuff, it just more noticeable on white

I just use a claybar and it comes right off.

I have a white truck but don't have that. Can't really see it well. What the hell is rail dust?

I would ask if its a geographical thing because of weather but I live about 2 miles from Kat.

Small particles of metal in the air stick to the paint and rust. It's called fall out. Rail dust comes from railroad tracks. Rail cars cause this stuff to get airborne.

What do you suggest for paint sealant? When I bought the truck new they put some b.s paint sealant/protector on it

My Bud who is a Line-X dealer uses a seleant that Line-X has, it s still nice and shiny after 2.5 years with no signs of rail dust back. My biggest problem is small black tar spots in the summer.

I have a cleaner that he gave me for maintainenceThat came with the sealent and so far its working great.

My buddies White 04.5 LLY has the same treatment and no reoccuring rust dust for him either. Maybe we are lucky.

That would be my guess, a good clay bar and polishing, with sealant should cure it.

I've never seen it on my white truck, but it stays pretty clean/waxed.

My brother's 04 F350 had the same problem, except stemmed from an idiot not covering the truck when welding/grinding on the dump bed he was having installed, you would be surprised where all that stuff can get, the paint was salvaged by a good polishing, but had to have glass replaced as it actually burned into the rear and windshield, and even ruined one headlight (that one was probably caused by grinding on another bed nearby) My brother didn't even notice it till about 2 weeks later during the first good rain and it all turned to rust. Not going to discuss the builder though, as when the owner got back from vacation he made it right, and pretty sure he fired the guy working on his bed.

On a white vehicle you can mix purple power and water 1:1 and it will take off just about anything. It will really clean up a white truck. You can not use it on a vehicle of color.

Friend of mine has a body shop. he was doing some work on a white Suburban that I had. When I went to pick it up I was amazed at how clean and white it was. That's when he told me that they wash all of the white vehicles with purple power to get them really clean and it helps them when they are trying to color match the white.

Question: where can one find purple power for future refrence?

With using this "purple power" and water 1:1, does this strip the wax off the truck, thus requiring an immediate wax job?

I'm not sure what purple power is. But I would say use a sealant/wax right after using a claybar/purple power just to help the paint out. IMO Can't hurt
