So me and the girl were on the way back to class from eating lunch. We were going down a 2 lane (opposite directions) when everyone in front of me started slamming on the breaks. So I did the same, ABS kicked in and I felt the gummy BFG A/Ts lock up. A half second after I stop about 5 feet from the car in front of me, I see a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the rear view come closer and closer in slow motion. Before I can tell my girl to brace, it plows into me. The brakes hold and keep me from hitting the car in front. After the crash I go over, to the Jeep, its a girl driving, and I ask her if she is alright, she says she is fine and that her breaks didnt work. I call onstar and within a few minutes they have an ambulance, 2 fire trucks, 3 cycle cops and a medical supervisor tahoe on the site. Long story short, they let me go, and give her a ticket.

Now for the damage report.

Mine: Hitch is tilted up and bumper is tilted down.....Thats about it..No frame damage, nothing else from what I can see.

Hers: Front grille is no more, passenger side headlight is out, radiator is completely nuked, basically, the entire front end is trash. My GI hitch dug straight into the front of it.

All I have to say is...Like a Mother F**kin ROCK!:D

Make sure your frame is not bent! And when you pic your truck up from the body shop make sure it is right or you will be fighting them all the time like I am. It is hard to find a good body shop now a days:(

Thank God no one was hurt

Glad to hear your ok.

I hate to say it but I almost wish someone would rear end my truck and/or hit a deer because I would really like to get a more beefy hitch and nicer bumpers.:D

Glad you guys are OK. Welcome to the Rear ended Club.

If i wouldnt have had my tow hitch in my bed would have been smashed, The hitch and bumper took the jolt. These trucks are built good.

Make sure you get checked out by your doctor, i didnt know i had a neck injury till about a week after my accident, just got real sore and caused headaches, no im not suing, im not that way but im just saying get checked out and make sure her insurance pays your doctor bills.

I have been saved at least two times because my hitch was left in. I keep one in always!! Good to hear you R safe!!:D

In Saskatchewan, it is illegal to leave a hitch in if you are not pulling a trailer. Bronson was telling me he got a ticket for it not too long ago!

Thanks for the good wishes guys! Not feeling anything in the way of an injury, woke up this morning and felt fine. I was sitting flat against the backrest when it happened so I didn't get any whiplash.

As for the truck, I couldnt see any frame damage. Everything seems to stop right were the bumper bolts to the frame. So, from what I've seen, I just need a new bumper/hitch receiver and I'm good. But I wont know for sure.

Attached is a pic of what the damage was in the back of mine. You can imagine what that hitch did going into the Jeep at a full 35 mph impact. It definitely saved everything. Never taking it off again

sorry to hear about the truck, but it sounds like everything will be fine. At least you guys are ok. Brakes didnt work??? HAHA yeah right. 50 bucks says you hop in her jeep right after and step on the pedal and its completely normal.

good luck getting the truck fixed.

Really good to hear your all ok. I have been in an accident similar to you. It was a six car pile up and we had injuries, I sustained neck injuries and minor scrapes, cuts but was overall ok. THey sent a guy to the hospital in a gurney :( I was in a jeep cherokee with my buddy driving. I am thankful no one was gravely injured. I am also thankful I have a truck now and not my mustang.
