Ignition switch might be your problem. No voltage to TCM.

Mike, I got the same code on my Edge CTS (I haven't used my V2 to look at the TCM yet), but I assume from what you mentioned that there won't be any other codes stored in the TCM and that this code inidcates that the TCM isn't seeing proper voltage (ie could be on positive or ground side). The interesting part is that I seem to be having issues with my CTS getting proper voltage to connect as well so these two issues may be connected (not that the Edge is causing the issue, rather that they are both suffering from the same problem). I have already replaced my ignition switch while trying to fix the Edge issue but I'm thinking there may be another culprit and when I find it, it will probably fix them both.

So in your experience is this something like a bad ground maybe? bad battery?

Any chance you could give a list of places to check?

Follow up:

My code turned out to be the result of 2 dead batteries (would throw the code at startup).
No CEL's ever resulted and after replacing batteries and clearing the codes it never came back.

hmmm.....my truck only throws the code when im WOT. my TC wont lock and if i dont let out of the throttle to get it to lock, the code gets thrown. how can this code be related to the TC not locking?

Not sure on that, but if it's not your batteries causing the issue, then I would suspect you may have a wire grounding or not making contact.
I researched quite a bit on the P0802 code and it seems there are a few possible issues.

  • Bad batteries (test for CCA's)
  • Ignition switch (easy to swap out)
  • Corroded/damaged wires (harness leading to ECM / TCM, esp Pink and Orange power wires.....rubbing at fan shroud is common)
  • Damaged/poor connections (esp J1 and J2 at ECM / TCM near fan shroud and tranny connector at rear trans, also check for corrosion inside connectors)
  • Pedal Position Sensor (saw one case where a Tech 2 pedal position relearn seemed to fix the issue)
