I dropped my nut

Not too long ago I was bolting my tranny dipstick back to the bellhousing/block and dropped one of the nuts. Now where do you think it went? Right down the mid-pipe of my exaust, which I should have covered up. I have had this thing ripped apart and put back together over 10 times and never dropped that nut. The one time I do drop it I have to take my whole damn exaust off Anyway no real point to this, just thought I would share to try and relive some stress.

That sucks Paul. you must me a certified technician at removing the exhaust system by now.

You have no idea. I can have both manifolds, both up-pipe, the down-pipe, and all related parts to get them out in a little over an hour There are soo many tricks to it that I can just hear it already. I'll be getting calls all hours of the day. "I can't get this out!" "I can't get that on!" "They don't fit!" There is no doubt that it is tight in there but you just need to relax and take your time and by time your done you will know what your doing haha.

Are you saying it is in the downpipe after the turbo? If so, it cannot get back to the engine. Just rev it up & blow it out the tailpipe.

Don't feel bad, I dropped the cam retainer bolt in the oil pan, doing a cam swap on a on a customers Z06 Vette. I played magnet fisherman for 2 hours to get it back...... much easier than dropping the entire suspension to get the pan off.

You learn to cover everything after this happens.

Yeah, its in the exaust pipe that the DP bolts to. I would try blowing it out, but I don't want to move it further back and have to end up taking the tailpipe down as well.

The problem is how many times do I have to do this befor I really do learn, haha.

dont feel too bad, when I did the PPE EGR delete on my truck I dropped a nut down the intake, I should've had it covered up too :baby:

i feel for you...i am a mechanic and have done MANY stupid priceless things over the years.... but now thinking of them makes me laugh

Yup, put the rest of the truck together and then thankfully I used a band clamp right before where the tube bends up before the muffler. Rattled that loose and low and behold I caught the little bugger :secret:
