My truck has intermittently had a rough idle with a lot of blue smoke but only in gear, since I got it with 213,000 I now have 268,000. Over the last few months it had started to do it a lot when I would stop at a light. Last week I decided to change the fuel pressure regulator because everyone had said that was the problem, well while I was in there I replaced the thermostats as well because the truck was only getting up to about 160 degrees according to the scan feature on my PPE programmer. So after putting it all back together I started the truck and drove it around and when I came to the first stop it started smoking again and I observed that it wasn't all the way warmed up but at about 160. Once it warmed up to 186 because of the new thermostats it wouldn't do it again but since then if end up coming to a stop before the truck is warmed all the way up it gets the rough idle and smoke. But it doesn't do it all the time. So now what? I have some high balance rates but if the injectors were bad wouldn't it smoke all the time and not only in drive at a certain temp?
