LB7: I am sick of my engine!

I blew a headgasket over two years ago and got them replaced at the dealer. Upon removing the heads they were very pitted and corrodedso they got sent to a machine shop to get shaved down. The mchine shop said they shaved the maximum they could off.

Just over a year later once I put the HTT on and started running hard I blew the headgasket again. It was the drivers side that went. I installed studs this time in Feb and thought I was good.

Now my engine is eating coolant and I have a +4 balance rate on #3 and 7 injectors so this tells me the problem is in the passenger bank. My balance rates were checked in Feb and they were all around 0.

I have an 02 engine with 60k kms on it to drop in its place as I am done with this current engine but the condition is that I must put mine back to proper running order in order to get the engine so my question is what would cause the truck to eat an overflow bottle worth of coolant every half tank but not have any pressurization of the cooling system cracked head?

Edit: There is no external leak and at an idle I can see the burned coolant wafting out the exhaust.

Dad's first motor (LB7) did the coolant eating trick too for about a month. He took it in under warrantee at 60k and they said they left it set pressurized over night to find the leak. They came back and said, " We see no leak." The motor never burned/used another drop of antifreeze it's entire life, yet it broke the crank at 9X,XXX. Go figure.

Do a compression test and that will tell you which cylinders may have a problem. It will be down quite bit off the norm. Hope that helps. You will see also coolant in that cylinder when you pull the glow plugs and turn it over it will blow out. Just don't be standing in front of the head with your face looking at it or you will get it in your eyes.

With the engine together the only way to tell if the cylinder thats eating coolant (after you find it or them) is either an injector cup or gasket is to use a good bore scope to look inside the cylinder and then maybe you can see if its coming from the gasket or cup sealing area.. But at this point you might as well go get your other engine and do all your investigation on the engine stand, you have all winter....:thumb:

Yep pretty much what it has come down to is pulling the engine so that is the next step.
