Hey guys,

Just curious how an HX40 6 or 7 blade (which is larger than the 8) w/ a 16cm housing compares to a stock LBZ VVT Garrett size wise (output)? ...Can't find a lot of details on the stock LBZ turbo.

Which flows more and by how much?

Got a buddy with an hx40/35 bybrid on his 24v with all the fixings... he tried a straight 40 before but said it was too laggy on a 6spd manual. Just kind of wondering how the straight 40 compares to my turbo etc. Throwing some ideas around...

Thanks for the input,

From what research I've done it looks like the super HX40 is capable of making 50-100HP more than a stock LBZ Garrett... but that info isn't set in stone...

you might have already read this on CompD or know this

HX40:

The 8blade hx40 has a 58mm inducer and flows about the same as a 60-1 (around 60lb/min) with ALOT better high boost efficiency and spool speed. It is the most common hx40 out there. The small bep housing with the hx40 turbine wheel is plenty to reach the full potential of the 60lb/min 8blade hx40 compressor. 20+ psi by 4100rpms with 272s.

The 7 and 6 blade hx40 is called the super40 and has the 60mm compressor inducer. This compressor flows around 69lb/min. You can get this wheel in billet style (think HTA). The non-billet wheel spools as fast as the 8blade hx40 in the bolton bep housing and has done 653whp at 40psi per the holset results only thread. Billet should spool even faster. The t3 .70 a/r BEP housing slows spool about 400rpms. But reports show a significant gain in flow per psi. So expect more power at lower boost with that turbine housing.

Thanks for the reply!

I did read that somewhere.. seems it's a little larger than the stocker. Anyone have a flow rating number for the LBZ turbo?

I have to admit... I wouldn't mind my truck being Holset powered like my car :D

But I would probably look at twinning over the stocker with an HX50 or 55 before I would go to all the trouble to mount the 40 for a small upgrade. It would be easier to build IMO and probably a better setup

Not to mention busted tranny time....
