Just a feeler right now. I read on a site earlier, possibly this one, about someone looking into having fiberglass beds built for drag trucks. If this is in the works speak up and I'll back off. My thought were a little different. I would like to make fiberglass panels that could be assembled to construct a body. Sides, headboard, floor and clip on tail gate. My plan is to offer these parts seperately, if someone wanted to build a body with no floor a head board and sides could be purchased. These will be thin single wall construction with an alluminum square tubing frame to make them rigid, and to have something to mount to. They will look factory from the outside but not on the inside. Another piece were thinking of would be fiberglass panels to take the place of the heavy doors. This would probably bring a crew cab truck down to the weight of an extended cab, or possibly lower. My plans are for a thin fiberglass panel that will look like the factory door when installed. The factor door will be removed and this panel will be rivited in the door opening from the inside. The factory door handle will be installed but not functional, it will be for looks only. Parts available will be rear and passenger side doors and again these will be panels that will not function so the doors will no longer be accessable. Still thinking of a way to install plexiglass or preferably lexan windows in a way that will still somewhat look stock. With the weight savings in the bed and 3 of the 4 doors on a crew cab, this should easily be over 1000 lbs. At this time Im pretty much just trying to see if there is any interest, Ideas and comments are welcome, thanks! Also if this works out I will respect the rules and regululations of this site and will not attempt to sell them without becoming a vendor. I have other products that I make that are sold by supporting vendors on here, more than likely this is what I'll do with this product.

Thats a good idea, I could fill the recess on the doors were going to make the mold from. That would definately help simplify things.

I am by no means a racer but If I was I would use Zeus fasteners not rivets so that when working on it they could come off even if the Zeus fasteners were in the cab.

Thanks for the ideas guys, a fiberglass front bumper will be very easy, fog lights no problem mounting provisions could be molded into the bumber. Also how do Zeus fastners work?

i think those are the springed push pins the head is for a flat blade and the other end is like a t,you just push in and 1/4 turn and it locks in place.lightweight cars use them for the hoods and sometimes the door if its a sheet of fiberglass or tin iirc:thumb:

Thanks Tom, looks like they make something that will work for almost any application.
'welcome :) They hold the floor panels down on my UPS truck. Work very well in that application, and DO NOT shake loose no matter how bad my dirt roads are, and they can get pretty bad with washboards/potholes.

I like your ideas on the panels. :thumb: There really isnt much out there for trucks, so you may be on to something.

Looks like allot of interest in hoods and front bumbers. As far as models, we would like to do as many possible. Were hoping to find good parts in the junk yard to make the molds from. The Hood is going to be somewhat of a challenge, for me anyway. The person I'm getting to help me with this project worked at Fountain boats and couple other boat manufacturers. I feel pretty sure he can handle the hood, I'll talk to him and see what he thinks.
