Huge Fuel Leak

Hi, I was driving on the highway and people were passing me and staring at me so I pulled over to make sure everything was okay. Two steady streams of fuel were pissing down each side of the bellhousing, niagara falls type stuff. The entire underbody including exhaust was covered in fuel, kind of scary. I cant pin point where the leak is but the intake valley is full of fuel. I made the mistake of just tearing into and have the t/stat housing off, coolant drained etc in the heat of the moment last night because i was pissed. Is it definitely the cp3 injection pump? Or do I have to put it back together and attempt to find where this leak is coming from? Thanks in advance.

Did you check your passage side return banjo and all of the other lines in the valley? Check to see if you popped a freeze plug on your cp3. Just a guess off the top of my head

Well that's the thing, I ran it and searched around with a light but couldnt see any streams of fluid. I could only see fluid in the valley. I can try and tighten all the lines in the valley and see if any are loose, it should be obvious I would think given how bad it leaks. Would the freeze plug missing be obvious? I can access the backside of the cp3 but dont really know where to look.

If you cannot find an obvious leak you can try some uv dye in your tank or if it's a big fast leak you can go straight into filter I believe.

Well it doesnt have a freeze plug below the FPRV on the back side like in pics 1&3 so I'll have to do more digging to see if its like pic 2. All the visible lines look clean and not wet. Pump doesnt look overly wet or anything either, pretty much just the valley. Thanks for the help so far!

I'm gonna try and take my intake horn off and move the wiring harness out of the way to see anything else thats obvious. If that doesnt work, I guess i'll put it back together and throw some die in the filter. It pisses pretty good so that should hopefully track it down a little easier. FPR plug, do you mean the wiring connector so it has higher pressure and creates a bigger leak when idling?

Okay so I put it back together, added dye to the filter and tank. Ran the truck and floored it a few times until I saw diesel draining off the bell housing then shut it off. Pulled the alt, ac comp, t stat housing and the only place I see fuel with my uv light is directly behind the pump and gradually less in the valley as it goes toward the firewall. All the lines/rails and connections look dry and leak free. Feed and return line that run down the firewall look good too. If the freeze plug is directly under the FPRV, it appears to be present. I can only see the cp3 as being the problem but idk where it would be leaking from. Thoughts?

If the CP3 is the only place it can be coming from, you need to pull the CP3 out and inspect/replace it.

You could always try getting a borescope and/or mirror down there to look at the bottom of the CP3, and maybe see the leak while it runs.

I'll see if I can fashion up a mirror to visually check. I have a nice snap on bore scope at work but I'm not even going to ask if I can borrow that. It would've been perfect for this though. I'm going to pull the cp3 likely either way but it would be nice to see an actual failure or leak path first.

Unfortunately, this is my DD but I have a s10 also its just not insured so I need to get this fixed asap. I bought a mirror and thankfully found my problem, pushed out freeze plug on bottom of pump. Ive been going at it for a couple hours. I have the pump out of its housing but I cant get it out of the intake valley. Is it required to remove the t-stat y-bridge or does it just take removing all of the lines in the way above the cp3 and pulling it up and out at just the right angle? The space is so small, i dont see how it can come up but I know people do it all the time.... Thanks for the help guys!

Glad you found your problem man. I never just removed the pump ..... could you take the back of the pump off to give you enough room to slide it back towards the y bridge ?

I think you have to remove your Y-bridge. I always have to, but I have a 3" Y-bridge, so maybe you can fudge it?

Honestly, removing the Y-bridge isn't too bad. Just be very careful not to lose the nuts down into the intake runners. I like to plug the intake "manifolds" with something obvious (big red rag) so they stay part-free during the rest of the work.

Shoot alright, I started removing the accessory brackets but I didn't get too far. I'm going to order up a new pump and hopefully get the old pulled in the meantime. It's really odd that this happened, this is a 1 owner old man truck with 172k miles and the pump was already replaced a few years ago. It's all stock and I barely ever go past half throttle. Any thoughts so that I can prevent this in the future? I've owned this truck for 5k miles and it's one thing after another.

after pulling y-bridge out I always have to take the two front studs out of the clamshells where the y-bridges bolts to so I can get the cp3 pump out.

TX of course
I'm not aware of a something that causes them to blow out plugs. Where was the replacement pump from? Maybe it was second rate...
