Hi guys,

I have been reading up all I can on tuning with EFIlive. I notice that often there are HP numbers that can be expected from the tune. Most of the time it is a certain gain over stock and occasionally a real number such as 525 rwhp. I have to presume that most of you do not have a dyno at your disposal so, where are these numbers generated from?

I hope to be doing my own tuning soon and don't want to get too crazy with it, just the normal mpg and towing performance improvements.

OK, but what part of the tune are they making the guess? Is it the timing or fuel quantity or boost? Probably a combination, along with experience I suppose.

Are there some sort of guidelines that I haven't come across yet?

Thanks for any and all replies.

Im no tuner by any means and i'm sure one will fill you in better but Most well known tuner's have large amounts of hours into their tuning and testing and they know what number's certain tunes put out.

A lot of it has to do with the pulse width of the tune, for example with the right timing and everything a 3200pw should get a stock truck around 450+ based on guys that have actually dyno'd theirs

Not trying to make a big deal out of something that's not a big deal because I know it wasn't the main point of the discussion... just throwing this out there:

I think a 3200 pulse w/ proper timing and boost will get you up in the 500's w/o too much trouble won't it?

I ran a 2100-2200 ish pulse and based on traps and weight I was around 430whp.

I may be wrong but I think 3200 is about as much pulse as you really want to run too considering the high timing needed and the likelihood of spraying outside of the bowl etc.

I found the dyno worth every bit of time and some money to see what my EFI was going to give me. Did a few changes and read the graph with related results very cool and it's proof of good or bad direction right away not go drive it and call me or even darker area the canned tuner saying this hp @ this # on scale. Dyno and EFI is nice combo for the elevation you expect to run in from our sessions with several trucks all seeing same benefits really. Good time like a mini dyno time without the breakage.

Most of the members with dyno numbers in their sig are true numbers... The ones that I have seen there not same XXX hp tune. Dyno days are becoming more common these days for diesels.

When Pat was tuning he would tune on the dyno and also dyno before an after mods :thumb: Just like we did when we where hot rodding our cars.
