I didn't replace mine, didn't notice any differences with it removed.

And that ones kind of a pain. There should be 3 or 4 10mm bolts holding it on. I went from the top of the engine, reaching behind the turbo wherever I could fit my arm to loosen those bolts. May have to crawl under the truck to get to one or two also. Good luck!

Thank you. The only reason I need it removed is to access the front two lower nuts on the y bridge. It is nearly impossible to get the nuts on from the front with the welded neck on the wehrli bridge

It may help keep some of the underhood temps down (the heat shield), but I've got a bigger charger now, and so far not noticing any issues.

If you worried about under hood temps after removing the heat shield, get a blanket from Levi. He makes some awesome stuff, and you really can touch the outside of the blankets after running it hard for 2 hours!! I have them on both trucks. :thumb::thumb:

i got the heat shielding off now i am trying to get the drivers side uppipe bolts loose. the bottom bolt and the top bolt most closest to the drivers side is the biggest problem so far.

PB blaster or liquid wrench may help with those. If those bolt heads strip out, it's a pain in the ass to get them out of there. One of those stub extensions for the 3/8" drive ratchet is what I use for the bottom bolts

okay i got the top uppipe bolts loose the only one that is being a pain in the ass now is the lower uppipe bolt on the drivers side when i get the breaker on it through the passenger side wheel wheel there isnt enough room to the bar to break it loose. the breaker bar travels about 2 inches up before it gets tight to apply pressure to the bolt and by then i have run out of room to turn it.

Try going at it from the top of the engine. Lay down some card board across the top of the engine, lay on that and stick your arms around the turbo to get to that bolt. It's a pain, but you should be able to put some pressure on it if you have the end of the breaker bar pointed toward the passenger fender, and pull up towards the windshield. Just be careful and not slip off and pop yourself lol

i finally got all the bolts loosened and it feels good. now just the oil drain bolts and then the turbo pedestals and out comes that sucker lol. what size are the 2 nuts on the oil drain underneath the uppipes? that way when i tackle it i can move quicker. and Wturnbo i am unsure how to go about removing that leaf maybe one of the other members know how:(

May try a shop vac. Other than that, I'm not too sure.

And those two nuts on the oil drain are 12mm I believe. Could be 11mm.. take one of each with ya lol

im not too sure either you will probably have to get something with alot of high power suction. i always get scared of instances like that and whenever i have parts of the engine exposed i have to have it covered.. and is removing the drivers side uppipe a necessity for removing the oil drain section of the turbo. the drivers side uppipe has quite a bit of wiring in front of it and its hard to fit the breaker bar in there. these llys are quite a test to work on but im sure it will be worth it when its done.

Wasnt to hard to remove anything on the turbo except for the heat shield on top that was a pain but just need 12mm and a swivel an can get to them all fairly easily on the uppipes and turbo. i had leaves an pine needles underneath the silver shield under the turbo from when i bought the thing an tried to not get anything in there but ill try to blow it out if not should just dissolve in the oil ill run it with fresh oil then do another oil change after 100 miles or so to make sure

Wturnbo, yes you'll need to move that driver side up pipe out of the way, the oil drain is close to directly under the outlet of it and the turbo inlet. Also, loosen the passenger side and move it around to get it out of there. And be ready for some heavy lifting, that dang turbo is heavy! Lol
