I've dropped the valve body and removed the hex bolt from the old switch. I can't figure out how to remove the old switch from the shaft. This was supposed to be a quick change but what a pain in the balls.

There is a retaining pin that keeps the shaft in the case. Been a little while but it's the alignment dowel for the VB IIRC

Theres a black pressed in pin just to the inside of the shift shaft once the valve body is pulled. You take a pair of vice grips or something to pull it out, then the shaft slides out, and the IMS can be removed.

I was finally able to dig back into this, the pin for the IMS came out pretty easily but I have two parts that came out when i was dropping the valve body and I'm not sure where they came from. I think the slave valce goes behind one of the solenoids, not sure which one. The A solenoid has one already

That is the valve that is hooked to the shifter.

The little pin goes in the slot in the end of that valve. The 6 speeds usually have a plastic retaining pin that holds that valve from coming out of the valve body....
