When changing an ECM on an LMM truck, you may run into a problem with the remote start not working. The truck also may or may not have the MIL illuminated. By using the EFILive Flashscan V2 interface you can program the new ECM injector flow data to match the GPM and get this problem resolved. DTC codes P268C, P268D, P268E, P268F, P2690, P2691, P2692, P2693 are the codes that are set when the injector calibration is incorrect.

To copy the flow rates,

1. Connect the V2 cable to the diagnostic port
2. Press "F3 Tuning Tool"
3. Next, press "F2 Configuration"
4. Next, press "F1 Read GPM Inject" If error message comes up, see below.
5. Next, press "F3 Prog ECM Inject"
6. That's it, easy enough.

If you get an error message at step 4, you must follow this procedure below, and then go back to above procedure.

1. At the main V2 screen, press "F4 Options"
2. Next, press "F1 Setup"
3. Next, press "F1 Edit settings"
4. Under the settings menu, the first item is labeled File Sys:, press left button to switch from SD Card to Internal. With this set at internal, press the Ok button. A message will come up saying "Failed".. Next press OK again.
5. Now we are back at the "Setup" menu, press the "Back" button.
6. Now we are at the "Options" menu. Press "F2 File System"
7. At the File System Menu, hit "F3 Format File Sys"
8. Next screen is a "Warning All Data will be erased", press Yes.
9. File system will format and you can now go back up to the above procedure to read and copy injector calibration data. :D

Well, you can read GPM and ECM, but only program the ECM.......As for programming the GPM with the flow calibration, I'm not sure.

What it does is allows you to program a new ECM with the injector flow calibration to avoid having a no remote start condition and MIL after ECM replacement.

What doese this do for us.

If I were to change GPCM I would do this correct?

You would only do this if you cahange your ecm. The flow rates are stored in the ECM and GPCM. With a tech 2 you can copy them both ways. With EFI you can only copy them from the GPCM to the ECM.

Does calibrating a spare ECM to the GPCM entail a flash from EFI Live? i.e. Do you have to use a your license to do this?

Also, does it alter the programming in any way as far as the tune itself goes?

I full of questions today....

It's an option on the V2 menu - it doesn't require a license or flashing of the ECM, and doesn't alter programming.

What we have confirmed apart from DTC's being set to stop the remote start, is there is a counter in a 'new' ECM that allows it to start in any vehicle up to 254 times without the theft learn proceedure, during this time it will relink to the vehicles VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System). Everytime the engine is run and stopped this counter is decremented by one.

Once the counter hit's zero the ECM is locked to that vehicle and will only allow that engine to run. What was confirmed is if that counter is not at zero then the remote start will not function.

Rather than turn the key on / off 254 times you can force that number to zero in EFILive. In the Tune Tool if you use the locking function (Go to menu item 'Flash' then 'PCM Security'). Choose the correct ECM type and press status, once the software has finished checking a few things click on the Tab that says VAT Relink. Where it has the IGN Cycles number, enter 1. If it's already 0 then don't bother reading any further. So, now you have 1 in the box, press the IGN Cycles button and turn the ign key off.
Give the truck a few starts / stops then retry the remote start.

This is only applicable to new ECM's that have never been in a vehicle before, however, I have seen TechII reset this counter back to 254 as well when upgrading the OS, and I've also seen the ECM do it after a full reflash with EFILive, so it is worth checking if the remote start stopped working for no apparent reason.

so, does it do any harm to just turn the codes off? at least temporarily? or do i need to get that into back into the ecm?

When I once put a ecm in my truck without doing it, it sounded really nasty like it was gonna blow. Since the ecm didn't know the correct flow rates. Remote start might not work without it programmed either.

im on build 84. i don't think ive ever updated my v2 itself though.

i just turned my codes off. truck runs fine. remote start works. but i definately want to get them into the ecm. gotta see about updating my v2.

thanks

The changes made to support this function are firmware related. It sounds like your firmware and V8 software are older than when this functionality was released in February, so you'll need to update. I've made a post in the EFILive subforum detailing the latest software releases which were made overnight - you can't get any more up to date than that!
