How to log PIDs???

I've read through the PID section (pg. 76+ per the advise of someone else on TDP) in the the User's Manual via the Help button in the Scan Tool. It says to validate but I am failing to see where it says HOW to validate. I'll try to read through it again when I get some spare time.

Since no one seems to want to write out how to do this proceedure, perhaps thats because its more involved than just selecting the PIDs I want to log, connect, and hitting the log or record button???? I'll dig some more. Thanks.

With my DSP5 functioning issues, I can't trouble-shoot because I can't log. I'll get it figured out eventually. Its probably just sometihng stupid I'm overlooking or failing to see.

I FOUND IT.
ok when tried it again i selected only the dsp5_ volts and dsp5_tune pids.
and i got the same error you were getting ( can only scan in dynamic or streaming mode) so i swithched it and nothing still wont scan. so i selected my pid list and it scaned fine. hmmmmmmm. so i started over and selected the two dsp5 pids and also RPM and boost pressure. and it scaned fine. I think it is a problem with scanning only the dma pids. So try it again and this time select more (sae) pids such as rpm, balancing rates, anything stock.
it worked for me. let me know

I haven't mastered logging, that's why you're not getting much help from me...

After you connect and select your PIDs, are you using the drop down menu under "View" to validate the PIDs?

mitch when you are connected to the vehicle BUT not recording
then hit validate pids

make sure you dont select to many pids useally around 18 pids for me
depending on what im doing i think max is 25

also remember that some pids need another pid selected to validate
EG: you will not be able to log difference between actual and desired fuel pressure PID with out selecting actual and desired fuel pressure PIDS

as well as some of the boost pids best thing is sit in the truck and play around with pids

also now that you have changed the pids your dashbord might need some changes done as well you can set it up so when you open a pid file it will automaticly load the dash board that you desire

and as for what Jboss said that should work for you...let us know

I'm still struggling. I had a guy send me a base tune that worked in his truck after he had lots of issues. Truck ran fine but wouldn't switch. Weird stuff was going on with the DSP PIDs when I logged them. Strange. Guess I need to send some questions to the good folks at EFI and see if they can't help.

So now you can log. is the voltage changing?
What os do you have? i can send you a dsp5 tune i made with wsu's big tune as the base. and see if it works

For all the DSP tunes that Chris (the neens) wrote for me, the voltage stays at 5.01 regardless of which position I put the switch in. The DSP_Tune PID says "non DSP".

Another guy on TDP that has an LB7 and had trouble with DSP5 finally got a base tune that worked on his. He sent it to me and I tried it but it was no bueno either. On it, the voltage was constantly and rapidly changing from like 1.xx to 14.xx so not sure what was happening with that. Most of the time the DSP_Tune PID said "non DSP" but every once in a while it would quickly scroll through "#1", "#2", "#3", and "#4" and always ended on "non DSP". Switch the switch did nothing with this tune either.

Both case (neen's tunes and the other base tune) started and ran fine, just no recognition of other tunes.

Someone on TDP suggested that my pins aren't protruding enough and thats why the voltage is staying at 5.01 So I'm going to check on that and see if that helps. In the mean time, please do send me that DSP tune with WSU's big tune as the base. My email is posted over in the Email thread.

Thanks for all the help.

They've got me working a lot of OT at work so I don't get home much before dark and don't have a garage to work in so dusk is my limit. I'll try to check it out tonight.

Thanks for the insight guys. I sure hope thats all it is even though I thought for sure I pushed those suckers in there for enough. :D

Finally got time to mess with it this afternoon and it WAS the freaking pins I thought I double checked were protruding all the way. I'm gonna say they fot pushed back out when I put the plug back in the ECM just so I feel better about myself. :D

But yeah, she works like a champ. Thanks to all those that offered up advise!
