First off please move if not allowed here but last month I did a burnout by starting in second and both wheels spun but now whenever I do burnouts only one wheel spins. All the burnouts I have done before that were in first gear and both wheels always spun. I am going to change my fluid and Someone I know told me that theres a certain kind of fluid that can encourage the diff to lock while doing a burnout. Thanks in advance.

You don’t have a limited slip, you have a locker, and it sounds like yours finally gave up the ghost. It’s not uncommon for the lockers in these trucks to go out. A popular option that many guys go with is the unit out of a Ram pickup, or there are costlier aftermarket options. I wouldn’t waste the time or effort with a fluid change until you get it properly fixed.

It’s a limited slip. Not a conventional limited slip but Eaton made these axles to allow some slip. If it were a true locker we would crab walk when parking at the grocery store.
The G80 use a clutch style mechanism to lock the rear after slipping one side sounds like you smoked that.
You’ll see reference 18 on this pic which is more or less the “clutch pack”

Are the Yukon Gear kits any good?

I'm sure they are. Just depends on what the op uses his truck for. I'm going to go with a truetrac when the time comes.

Stop doing burnouts
What? This is Duramax Diesels! Sure, if he stopped doing burnouts things would last longer, but where's the fun in that? ;)

The G80 is a weak clutch style limited slip, and yours is just done. I wouldn't waste your money putting another back in. If you're on a budget, put the stock unit out of a Ram in it. That is just a lower ratio version of the Eaton TrueTrac. It won't work quite as well as the real TrueTrac off road, but is supposed to work pretty well all around.

If you have money, there are lots of options. A limited slip like the TrueTrac, an automatic locker like the Yukon Grizzly Locker, or a manual locker like an ARB. They all have their advantages and disadvantages, so it depends on what you want to use the truck for.

I have a TrueTrac in mine, and I love it. Spins both tires, climbs loose dirt hills, and actually puts power down in a corner without looping the truck out.

Theres a good chance in 2nd gear you're simply above the speed the G80 will function at. Most forget the G80 is only designed to work in a narrow speed window. From GM they're designed to work between 10 and 25 mph, any faster or slower, and they won't work(this is normally how they are damaged is doing a burnout, it grabs, and when it unlocks when the speed gets to high, it strips the gears on the engagement ring). Or you blewthrough the unlock zone doing your burnout, and fragged your G80. Open it up and see if you see teeth missing, or bits of gear in the oil. But I wouldn't put another one back in.

Grizzly locker in mine after I smoked the G80. I love the Grizzly, great street manners and always locked when I want it to.

My question is where is the video proof of said burn outs??? :quote:

If I knew how to post videos Id be glad to provide proof and I use my truck as a daily and also slowly building a street truck. Looking to replace with better parts.

You are no different from any of us. I know plenty of guys with daily’s in the 700 range which in my personal opinion isn’t for everyone. Last year a friend and I were cruising in his built Cummins and he went full retard when pulling onto a main blvd when a domesticated vehicle would have kept traction and his did not. Our response was to kinda push your shoulders up and wave saying “sorry...”

TruTrac gets my vote, very pleased with mine. Was in the same position, but my stock G80 made it until 200k.
