How to fix my lights?

I've been having issue with the headlight switch since I got the truck. Basically, I can't put the switch to off. It springs back to auto, which cause me troubles.

I don't want to disable drl, i just want to be able to turn my lights off so that my fender marker and dashlights turn off. Since drl only affect the front lights, the rear lights and etc would be off, along with my dash and instrument panel.

My truck has the light sensor, and at auto it turns on the light at night which makes it hard to back up with the fender marker blinding me.

If I could put the switch to off, the drl would be on at all time (as per law) but I could turn all the other lights off and see better when backing up.

The darn switch just springs back to auto no matter what I do.

My truck was an american truck, imported into canada. If that helps anyone

The switch springing back to the auto position is normal operation. When you select the "Off" position it should be turning everything off. Then you 'spring' it to "Off" again and it will turn the auto lights back on. Are you saying the lights aren't turning off at all when you bump the switch to "Off"?

I also believe when in daylight and the auto lights are selected "Off" the DRL's do not operate either.

I think I tried that but i'll double check it and report. bumping the knob to off to turn off instead of putting it to off seems counter intuitive. Why make it simple ....

DRL have to stay on when the engine is running or they should be. it's a canadian thing. I just want to be able to turn the other lights off.

That's a Canadian thing. Not sure why. All trucks '01-'07 classic body style are like that. My '09 work truck shuts the lights off though when I'm in park so not sure what they changed. I've often wondered if it's in the BCM programming or something.
I'd like to hook up a tech II and try full flashing the truck with a US trucks cal file and see what happens.

man I need a way to get the lights to turn off, that light blinds me when backing up...

Im gonna ask the dealership. Mine was a us truck before, so it should be possible to make it right. The day lights I could understand, but being unable to turn the other lights off is plain stupid. If I remove the offending lights, Ill have people hitting the side of my truck and If I need to back up I have to have it off...

Hopefully someone has the answer. I might look being the switch, maybe a wire is unhooked to force auto lights at all time.

Can you play with the BCM with the $900+ efilive ?
