How much cooling does the trans need?

Have a built trans. It does not over heat but possibly looking to keep it cooler. My tranny lines are leaking and I bought another stock cooler and lines and wondered if two stock coolers would be worth the trouble? Trans temps stay consistant for temps outside and never get over 200*. Let me know your thoughts, thx

200* is fine/normal for a built trans...in my own opinion. Mine has run 200* and a little higher for 140,000 miles since I built it and it runs just fine.

Big dipper built my trans and he told.me to use a earls cooler from jegs or summit and it will work eith the factory line just have to make brackets to hold it but I think the most u will see is a 40* difference. And the cooler is like $200

Well so I know I dont have a heat issue with the trans, will it make any difference if I install the second stocker over the stock one? Or will it hurt the flow of the trans pump by having to push fluid through booth?

I don't think it will hurt flow. The coolers flow really well, but I'm not a transmission guru.

They don't flow that well. The Allison engineers call it a joke. You don't need a cooler if you haven't gone over 215 on a regular basis. I would not put two of them on. If you are set on more cooling, put a bigger cooler on.

Mike sells a great cooler for a great price I beat the shit out of my truck and it NEVER sees more than 200*... Thanks Mike well worth the money

Would putting on a higher flow cooler do anything noticeably positive for the trans then?

I suppose a person could run 2 stock coolers in parallel, but by the time you deal with the plumbing it might be more PITA than it's worth.

I was going to do this,(one on top another) but apparantly the stocker does not flow that well... with two.
I needed the trans lines and got a good deal on the lines and the cooler.

Pluming will be a pain in the ass. If you do this do NOT use hose and clamps as they will blow off. The Alli sometimes spikes pressure to 200 psi and that will blow a hose and clamps off.

Thats why I was thinking split the flow up between the two... roughly half the flow through each should reduce the overall resistance.

Mike... is it worth getting a better flowing cooler purely because the stock one is a restriction? (regardless of the help on temp control)

I am trying to answer questions about cooling and not talk about my coolers. There are other ways to increase cooling but they will be complicated. I am against cutting lines and hate hoses because they become a potential problem with heat and rub through.
If you are a good fabricator you can build something neat. Most people are not and wind up butchering their lines. I strive for max cooling for the trans without compromising cooling to the engine. If you put too big of a cooler in front of the stack, you help the trans and heat the engine which in turn will throw heat back into the trans. Pissing in the wind. Choose your trans cooling system wisely.
