I have a shop saying that it is 6 hours R&R per axle... they are 100$ an hour so thats 1200$ in labor plus parts. Ripoff?

the quotes i have gotten in the past for gears f/r were any were from 1000 - 1400 bucks parts and labor . but those were 1/2 ton trucks but labor should be the same both are ifs trucks . drive train specialty shops usually have the best prices .

Gears

I would say no way on 6 hours for the rear. I did Eric(EEC)gears front and back for I think $350. He supplied the parts and had the front diff out but that would have been easy on the rack. I can have the front diff out in 30 minutes. Maybe it's higher on the west coast. I wish I could get 1K labor for that. Jeff

I just got a qoute of $1200 to switch mine to 4.56. This price includes, gears, and install. I does not include the diff and spool. I bought those from Tony Burkhardt.

Want to do another set Sting?:)

that's about right. If your using the same carriers you can talk them down to 4 hours prolly. Usually and I use this term very loosely, You can bolt the new ring on and use the same shims and it will be pretty close. Takes a little bit of time out of the job. If you put in a spool or change the carrier from anything other than the one that came in the truck. It's going to take longer. The front is easy, spanner nut's and it's pretty straight forward. People get paid well for gears because not everybody can do them. They kinda get to name their price.

did yall go to 4.10 or 4.56's on erics truck? I have thought seriously about going to 4.10's on my truck for pulling but can get 4.56's at a deal but I dont think they will be very road worthy in a 5spd tranny.

Jeff 350 bucks is a killer deal, almost makes me wanna drive to ohio to get mine done

RPM's didnt really pick up much because I run 4th gear now. But I picked up about 5-7mph wheel speed... I really doubt you could leave it in 3rd gear. I could only get about 19mph and 4,000+ out of it...Its just to low
