I tried to read the tuning in my cousins truck he just bought. It is a lmm with a dsp5 by crank it up diesel. What error message do you get if the tuner has the ecm locked?

You can't read DSP tunes on the LBZ and LMM. There isn't enough space in the ECM to do the DSP Custom OS in normal memory, so we write to 'unreadable' memory.

You dont its dumb but you have to look up his os of the tis site and hope to god it flashe in with no bugs or you can take it to gm have them flash in a new stock tune and rebuild it. Also try asking the tuner for it i doubt they give it to you but worth a shot
Yeah i guess i will have to call crankitupdiesel and see if they will send me the file so that i can modify it for him and reflash it in his truck. Its not like im stealing it for my truck he wants me to make some changes to some of the tuning for him. I was unaware you couldnt read dsp from a lbz/lmm
I don't really need a stock OS because i just want to make some changes to his tuning for him, tire size has changed, the high hp tune is frying his trans so i want to detune it some and also full around with some of the other to try to obtain better fuel mileage
Wasnt trying to be a jerk there, just seemed to be the easiest way to go about it.
Maybe try to find another LMM ecm and make your own tunes for it?
