Im a new duramax owner and new to the forum. My 2008 2500HD is a crew cab with a 6.5 foot bed (truck is completely stock) that I bought to tow a 33 foot fifth wheel. I also use it for my daily commute. It has 78k miles. I get approx 16 mpg (hwy) @ 65 mph and maybe 11 towing the trailer at the same speeds. I was really hoping for a little better fuel economy than this. I spoke with one mech and he wanted 2500.00 to improve economy. What I would like to know is what are worthwhile upgrades to make to improve economy. Also if you were gonna do it in stages what order would you do it in (if thats possible)

Well it's gonna have to be deleted first... A nice EFI live tune, keep the stock wheels and tires, drive easy.

He didn't say what he was going to do? Just give me 2500 and I'll make it good? Run!

As stated, delete the emissions crap, an economy efi tune, and light on the skinny pedal.

My son deleted all of his garbage and his mpg went from 16 to 21. No more EGR, No DPF, change the down pipes with LB7 and the truck just runs, of course he had to get EFI Live on it.

It's either leave it stock with emissions or throw it all in the garbage and tune it... Can't do both.

I wouldn't call the emissions equipment garbage, what happens if your state, county or city fails EPA air quality standards and is forced to implement emissions testing. I have read a number of threads where this has happened. Those items can get pretty pricey when you need them...Keep them on a shelf until one of two things happen, you total or sell the truck...
