Hi folks. Brand new today to forum.
I've had this happen twice so it's time to start finding out what to fix/repair/replace.
I live down south and it's been hot. 140,000 miles on truck (LB7), been an awesome vehicle, but my confidence has been shaken.
After the truck has been driven then stopped and shut off, twice I try to start and no go. Only way it's started is with ether down the throat, then it starts and runs fine (I think). Only happened twice, about three weeks between, so...
Is it the Fuel pressure relief valve? or something else that is typical?

Also, checked OBD2 and it triggered a P0374 code. Engine sounds pretty crappy running on ether, smooths out once ether burns off and fuel only, but...

Never use ether on these trucks....especially on a stock motor. Good way to blow something up. Have you checked the filter head to see if it's losing prime?? FPRV can cause rail issues, but I've never seen it cause a no start issue....if it was that far gone, the truck would be running like crap, if at all.

Changed the filter 6 months ago, or so, hadn't had any problems before. First time, I checked to see if I had fuel to the filter, pressed the prime pump and fuel came right out. Guess I could go back through it and see. Thanks.

By the way, yeah, I was pretty leery of using ether (engine starting fluid), but, I've been around a while and used to use it on all the diesels, thought it couldn't hurt to try, and it got me back on the road.

If it does it again, try priming it without opening the bleed screw. The primer should be fairly stiff. If you can pump it easily a few times, most likely you're getting air in the fuel system. First thing I'd donis rebuild the filter head. Cheap and thyre notorious for developing leaks.

Need a way to see how much rail pressure its building when you are cranking it. needs 1400-1500 psi cranking before the ecm will fire the injectors. if it starts fine when its cold theres' a good chance the injectors are starting to return/bypass enough fuel that the cp3 pump cannot achieve 1500 psi of rail pressure till you make the rpm up with the starting fluid and then it stumbles to life. if the filter base is losing its prime it should start hard when its cold after sitting over night.
