Ive got a 65hp EFIlive tune on my LMM and its straight piped aside from the cat still being on. I ran an extra 75hp and completely straight exhaust on my 04 for over 5 years without a problem but Im slightly worried about the 6 speed allison since the LMM has more power stock. Should I be fine or take it down some? The tune I have on it is one my friend just got off the dp and it runs great other than pulling hills at 80 it will shift down into fifth for a couple seconds and then back up to 6th again. On some long hills last night it annoyed me enough i threw it into 5th and just left it there until I got on flatter ground. Suggestions and comments?

The general rule is 80-90 additional wheel horse for a stock trans is the max. The six speed is stronger and can take a little more. However, all trucks are different. Some guys limp on a 65 horse tune with some abuse. Some guys run 500rwhp on a stock trans for quite some time. Never know.

I tuned my dad's LMM when it had around 40k miles on it. I don't the exact horsepower of the tunes I ran, but the smallest tune was probably close to 400 HP at the rear wheels. It typically ran probably close to 425. The biggest tune it ran dynoed 480 HP and ran 13.6s at close to 8,000 lbs. When we built the transmission with just a little over 100k miles on it, it had never limped, but there were signs of damage. The C3s were really dark. The C4s and C2s were also showing some signs of slipping. I think the converter took it the hardest though. I could feel it slipping in 5th gear at the drag strip. This was all with a completely stock transmission.

All that to say, I think you will be safe running a 65 HP tune.

Before you even tune it, throw a transgo Jr. in there...it will help a lot, and its less than 100 bucks.

If you ever swing up this way Ill give you 50 bucks to do it :thumb:
Though further reading shows it may not be very hard

Very easy. You should be able to do it in an hour or less.

Well I may get that sometime soon. And then bump it up to 100hp
Anyone have any thoughts on the shifting down on hills? Im not talking huge hills either. Just normal rolling hills on I25 in Wyoming
