Guys,
After a few years off I'm looking to get back into hockey and was curious if anyone here plays. I skate every now and then but haven't played in about 5 years. I have an old pair of Nike Qwest that were sick skates in their day and the blades are trashed...don't look like the towers are replaceable. And I was looking and forgot that Nike/Bauer merged...the dilemma is I loved Nike skates and Bauers never seemed to fit me right...any advice?

I play in 2 leagues. Just got back into it last year. I have wide feet and the Bauers I tried didnt feel right. They were '09 One55s. I looked at the Reebok 5k pump, but it was real tight. I ended up liking the CCMs. I got the V06s. They weren't expensive, have been holding up quite well and they're comfy. I do recommend getting your skates baked. Most hockey shops have an oven and will do it for free if you buy them there.

Thanks for the response Chris. I'm looking at playing in a beer league or two. I'll have to look into CCMs I know in the past the Bauers were too narrow for my feet as well. Didn't even think to ask about an oven that's a good idea. All my gear looks to be in good order...haven't really gone through all of it yet but I know the boots of my skates are decent but the blades look like shit...all rusted and dull as hell...

Maybe you could have new holders riveted on. A lot of guys like the Tuuk Lightspeed2. I'm pretty sure you can put them on anything. Then you could keep the skates and have more money for a nice stick. Damn things are expensive these days.

Definitely have to look at that. just not sure how many real hockey shops they have in CA lol. I know back home (Alaska) we have plenty of awesome shops just gotta see how it is here. I like the look of those Tuuks though gonna have to see if someone can rivet them on for me! Thanks for the help!

Yeah between NHL playoff season about to kick into gear and just realizing how much I miss playing has really gotten me pretty driven to start playing again. Only reason I never pursued any sort of juniors or anything is just size as I'm not the biggest kid on the block lol

hell yeah man. You're not too big look at the size of some of the pro players...all you gotta do is skate enough to get agile and you'd be a ringer. I am on the other end of that lol about 5'4 and 160

You're never too big. My 30+ league is filled with guys like you. It's all about the fun and you cant beat the exercise.

One thing I just remembered about Bauer skates, they make 2 different models now. There's the Supreme line and the Vapor line. For some reason everyone likes the Vapors more. I've never tried a pair on but it makes me curious.

I've noticed that as well...the Vapor were REALLY new when I got out of the game so i never got to try them myself. I'll definitely be looking this weekend at skates if I can't find a place to redo my skates. I'll give them a look.

On the subject what about sticks? I have an older Easton 2 piece it's a Easton graphite shaft with a Easton Focus Flex blade...I know the Synergys and the one piece sticks were getting popular around that same time frame as well....I just like the replaceable blades with a 2 piece.

Those 2 piece sticks are heavy.
I prefer the composite 1 piece sticks. I have a Warrior Kronik that weighs less than a pound. You can find last years top models on clearance prices at most hockey sites. I got that Warrior for 120 bucks from Perani's. That's 100 off retail. HockeyMonkey has good deals too.
