Saturday I was at the strip and Blew the bellow out of the egr pipe. I got the three bolts out of the exhaust manifold but can't get the bolts loose on the back of the turbo. I sprayed them with penetrating oil yesterday. I tried two different swivel head ratchets one with a pipe and the impact and can't get them loose. I am heading out west thursday hunting so I need to get this apart and back together asap. Would putting the downpipe back on and starting the truck to let the turbo heat up help? I am stuck and need ideas. Thanks

i use a long breaker bar from the wheel well and it always works. more penetrating oil can't hurt either along with the breaker bar. if your 12pt 12mm socket is old you may want to go the craftsman and get a new one. i broke mine on the second bolt the first time i pulled the up pipes. the craftsman one is nice and has thick walls.

I almost lit my truck on fire and found a new hobby (as well as some new friends who hated me for that orderal) over those Godforsaken bolts. Lots of penetrating fluid, and a big breaker bar are your friends here.

I have a 1/2inch drive, long handled, swivel head ratchet i use just special for those bolts, i can get the right up pipe bolts loose from the inner fender but the left side bolts i always get from up top!

Lots of lube, lots of swear words and lots of thrown tools always work well to!!

Hey guys, Thanks for the help. I tried three breaker bars and a 3/4in rachet. They all had too much slop to break them loose. I would get the socket on the bolt and start lifting and the handle would hit the top of the wheelwell before the bolt would break loose. I ended up using a 4ft pipe on a standard 3/8 craftsman ratchet. The clicks in the teeth of the ratchet are a smaller degree than the rest and I could get some leverage on the bolts. I don't know how the ratchet didn't break. Those bolts were extremely tight. Would antiseize help or would that just burn off with the exhaust heat? I had a 1.25in. crack in the bellow for the egr. I just cut that pipe off and wraped the hole with 12ga stainless. Tomorrow we will reassemble. Thanks for the help.

tool2.jpg this is what i made. i used a 12mm 12 point wobble socket with a 1/2" drive ratchet cut and welded to a notched 1/2" drive socket w/ a 1/2" drive extension. then used a 1/2" breaker bar and cheater pipe. this worked great for getting out from under the cowl!
