I have a 2009 macbook 15.4" pro recently it will not charge i know its not the charger bc my buddy has the same computer and my charger works on his. I has replaced the battery with no change. the charger shows a dim green light going to let it sit on there over night but just seeing if anyone has any other ideas of whats going on with it. hate to replace it bc i have everything on there including efi live on the split hard drive. any help would be appreciated :thumb:

We had something similar happen with our mac. It wouldn't charge for about a week. Just when I was going to send it to Apple it started charging again. Weird

That was 2 months ago. Pat has left it plugged since. I am typing on it now.

If the charger connector and port are clean, It's possible the I/O board is weak or shot. Even if it is not repairable or feasible to do so, you will still be able to recover the data from the hard drive.

I had the same thing happen and it took me a week or so to figure out. I just cleaned the charger connector and the port on the computer. There was just dust built up in there, since then it's been fine

Sounds like a motherboard failure then:(, but even if it is, your data will still be recoverable, all your stuff is stored on the hard drive, which is easily swapped over or can be read and transferred over.

did you try resetting the SMC? will it power up with the adapter in place?

Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove

Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own

Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

hope that helped

the mac will not power up with the charger plugged it nor will it turn on after having the charger on it all night. when the charger is plugged in it has a very dim green light. just installed brand new battery with no change. I cant do a smc reset with no power into the computer.
