2003 2500HD, LB7, PPE Economy Tune 2 (90hp/120ft-lbs of torque), Airraid intake, and some other mods that I do not think are related to this problem.
So I'm cruisin' down the road at 60mph with Cruise Control set. Speed limit drops to 45, I hit the "off" switch for Cruise, that's ON the turn signal column, I hear something *POP* (sounded electrical), and bam. Limp mode. Sounds like it's firing on 1 cylinder instead of all of them.
So now I've got the truck off, I hook up the tuner and try to read codes. I start writing down the codes I am getting so I can google them, and it just keeps going. Ended up being 78 codes. And the tuner doesn't show if they're P, C, U, or any letter code. It just shows 4 numbers, so I couldn't really tell what was going on. I did find something on the forums about 0202, 0203, and 0205 codes, which I saw. "Injector Connection Fault" for Injector 2, 3, and 5. So I start looking at wires, and it's raining, and 1AM and I can't see shit. So I end up just risking it and limping it to my buddies. Stayed around 25mph.
Next day comes around, I start looking at all the wiring around the FICM, and the wire harness that likes to rub on the bracket above the FICM that's beside the alternator. No chafing, nothing out of the ordinary. Well, I had unplugged the batteries to check wires, and I bought a little code reader/diagnostic tool, so I plugged the batteries back in and cut her on and it's like nothing ever happened.
I'm assuming the battery reset the computer and it hasn't checked that system again, but I did plug the code reader in and it didn't pick up any new codes in the historical/pending/confirmed side.
Now I've got a 2 hour drive home tomorrow, and a truck that just ghosted into limp mode for no reason, and I'm slightly concerned about driving it home when I have no idea what will cause this issue.
We did try to duplicate it and make it limp out again, but it won't do. I hit 60, in cruise, cut it off, she just keeps truckin' along.
P.S. I forgot to mention, before I unplugged the batteries and checked wires I returned the truck to the stock tune. That's the only factor that is different now. it's stock instead of tune 2.
Thanks in advance for the help!
