So going camping. We had to make a long steep slow speed climb. Trans temp started getting hot above 210. Started hearing weird noises when accelerating. Got to the top of the hill, and the engine lugs way down in gear. Try to move and it struggles and lets out a few clunks. Autocal shows these codes: ACM u1000, absC0055, absC0201, absC0035. I hope it will get me home! Any ideas?

anyone? got home. I can clear the codes and they do not trip again while driving. I shut the truck off, and as soon as I start the truck, all 4 codes trip again without touching anything other than the key to start it. It worked ok going home, but once the trans temp got warmed up to operating temps again, it started lugging in park again. almost like the converter isnt fully unlocking or something. I noticed some shavings on the dip stick also.

one more thing, checking the records on my insight, the hottest it got was 218 which to me isnt that hot.

What kind of shavings? Might be time to drop the pan.

218 is on the verge of making me worry. Talk to your trans builder.

I will tomorrow. question. I have read in a few places 200-225 is pretty normal temperatures for an allison while towing? do built transmissions handle heat differently? why would peaking at 218 cause the problems I am having?

they look silvery metallic.

The Allison can handle heat better than most transmissions. If you are going to run hot temps, run a synthetic fluid to protect it.

Hot temps are very rare for me. My max temp prior to this was 202. Everyone I was with had trans temp issues. GM and dodge.

Talked with my builder today. The torque converter failed on it. It's a precision. Said he's had a lot of trouble with their units lately. It's getting a suncoast this time.

you not the only one :D. you or him might want to look at the internal filter though, if its plugged, it could have hurt the clutches. been down that road....

Thanks for the tip I'll run it by him. It's all warranty work. He is being pretty fair to me. I'm happy he is giving me the choice to change to the suncoast for whatever the difference is between the 2.

Any signs or symptoms for the converter failing other than the high heat?

That wasn't the main symptom. As I stated above, when I can to a stop it would lug the engine way down and try to push through the brakes. He said something about the hub or stator trying to weld its self to something but it was jiberish to me.

Up and running again. As if today. Suncoast 1058 converter and mike's trim and shift springs installed. Only about 15 miles on it so far. Hasn't finished learning. Still flaring shifts.

Cool. That won't happen soon enough haha. Gets strapped down Saturday to finally see what it puts out. Shouldn't need to shift though.
