So I've been extremely curious about this for some time , what is the actual difference between a transmission kit ? As in one with a t/c clutches etc and a crate transmission , is the transmission housing any different other then billet covers and painted or powdered . My tranny goals are 600 -700 hp I'm not anywhere near that in power for a while , but I'd like to do they trans next .
Current set up is
Efi -by atp
Egr delete
Pcv reroute
Turbo back 4" no cats straight piped
Intake and a&B.B. Mouth piece
S and b *^
Pretty basic truck thinking about a Kennedy lift pump or something

The case is the same. All that matters is who put it together.

Evan will ship you a crate transmission if you want to just remove and replace. Since you're in California go see Mike.

Yeah there literally 60 miles from me and with his rep that'd be the only option for me , I was just confused as far as the price gap , I'm expecting something like 1k-1700 I'd imagine right for R&R

Many trans kits dont come with bearings, filters, seals, orings, springs or apply pistons. That all adds up really fast. Also shipping cores back.

Also, $1k to $1.7k in a trans won't hold 600 to 700 hp. I think you may find it hard to even find a stock rebuild for that price

Yeah def agree parting together is sometimes more expensive to just buying it , are they wanting cores if u use the same trans tho ? Main question was buying parts and using my housing ? I personally feel like this is the next step in my truck I'm bored and want some more power .

Are you building this yourself? If not, don't worry what comes in the kits, just tell the builder your goals and truck setup, they'll do the rest.

$1k is pretty typical for a trans R&R. If you have the means to do so, and want to pinch some coin just pull it yourself and haul it down to Mike. I'm sure he'd do a core exchange if you asked nicely.

Yeah I can handle the removal no problem . I own a Pete after wrenching on that girl these Duramax's aren't bad . So generally if u go the rebuild your own trans route , vs buying a crate trans so to speak its more expensive ?
I'll just give mike a call tomorrow and try and run some questions by him

Rebuilding yourself will be cheaper. It may not have the "builders touch", but at 700hp you could get a kit from Evan or Mike (if he does that) and it will last as long as you want it to. Also remember this is well into built engine territory for an lly.

No apologies needed. Tis my job.

I agree completely with the guys. Just take your truck to Mike. Im not sure if he does this or not, so call him to find out, but maybe you can do the r-n-r and simply take the trans to him to have it built?
