New fuel filter on my LLY. I've primed the hell out of it and still can't get a start. It doesn't seem like i can hear the pump run when I turn the key over and when I try to start it, I get starter action. 3 weeks ago, I didn't realize I was low on fuel until my light came on and before I made it to a station, it died. I know that can put alotta strain on a pump and prolly messed it up. I put some fuel in it.. primed it and it has done fine until last night. I was rolling about 35 with just under a 1/4 tank and it just shut down. I cant get it to start and I'm pretty new to the diesel world. Should I drop the tank and change the pump? I'm mechanically capable haha I have a gnarly gasser I've built so i'm not new to mechanic work. Please... SOMEBODY HELP ME :confused:

No pump inn the tank... You won't hear a pump run either..

After you prime it, then crank it.. Is the fuel filter prime still hard? Might have to do it a few times...

Advance priced me for two different pumps lol must've been for a gasser. one was like a grand and the other was 300-ish. Yeah it seems to get pretty stiff when there's a good flow coming out and there's no air coming through anymore. I've cranked it for awhile and can't get nothing but starter action.

My gripe is the fact that I still have just under a quarter tank when it quit... makes it seem like a fuel pick up issue.

I definately primed it and cranked it several times. It quit with just under a 1/4 tank of fuel. Would that be a problem with a pump??

San Diego.
It could most likely be the fuel pickup tube in the tank. I have had that happen to me before. need to drop the tank and adj the pick up tube. PPE sells a high flow kit.

Could be a bad pickup.. Did you add fuel to bring it above the 1/4 tank mark?

Is the primer hard after you crank it? Or do you have to reprime it?

The fuel pump on a stock truck is a cp3. Its part of the motor, not the fuel tank.

Duramax's have cp3 injection pumps, there is no electric fuel pump like you are thinking. I would prime it a couple times and keep trying, also there is a bleeder screw on top of the fuel filter housing that you need to crack open to let the air out off the system. You may have sucked a air pocket up by running it low on fuel.

o ring on the pickup in tank ? Could be sucking air at 1/4 tank. Iv never had this issue but had a 7.3 doing the same thing and this was the problem
