Hello my name is Chris from northern ohio. Thought I'd take some time and introduce myself formally on here. 20 years old and willing to learn anything and everything with these trucks. This forum is a great resource and I want to thank all of you who contribute to it. I work as a mechanic and have been for some years now. Diesels are new to me though. Gassers in my mind make perfect sense and I can diagnose and properly fix almost anything on those. Now that I finally bought a duramax it gives me an increased thirst to learn more about them and how to properly build and get this engine and trans combo to perform as best as they can. I'd appreciate some critiquing on my current setup. Week spots and if I'm on the right track. Any input would be great. Money is limited for now but I plan on different upgrades in the future. My current setup is a 2005 Chevrolet LLY. Extended cab 4x4. 207,000 miles. Only had the truck for the last 2000 miles. Not sure if anything has been replaced in the past as far as injectors. The previous owner used it for towing and put 70k miles on it in the last 8 months before I bought it. He traded it in for a brand new dually at the local dealership. Here are the things I've done to it.

-Sinister EGR delete kit with the free flowing intake tube
-S&B turbo mouth piece
-PVC re-route
-AEM cold air intake
-cut cat-converter out and 4" straight piped it back w/5 inch tip
-edge CTS juice with attitude and unlocked tune 6
-merchant automotive pump rub kit

Any tips or pointers on other upgrades? Or things I went wrong on. I know you all will say efi live haha Trans is stock as far as I know. I was thinking about shimming the frpr or ppe race valve?

Yea I get EGR codes the Ppe I used to have took care of them. Any ideas on getting them to not show besides efi live? Would a tech 2 do it?

Shim the rail before it pops on a hotter tune IMO, not a fan of the race valves. Find what tune you like to drive it on and leave it there, the Allison doesn't like getting jacked around with different power levels all the time. Get a lift pump too. I have 208k on mine with stock injectors so they may be ok, just run an addative at every fill up. Also check the wiring harness up by the alternator bracket for rubbing. :thumb:

Good day C.bowles2,

First, let me say I'm speaking from experience.

-Don't lift your truck more than a 6" suspension lift. Higher than that puts your control arms at crazy angle and causes your ball joints to wear faster and due to the height, it makes the inside of your front tires wear fast if you travel curvy roads. (I have a FABTECH 4.0 Dirt Logic 9").

-Don't go bigger than a 35x12.50 and I recommend staying 18" rims or below for the money aspect. The larger tires put stress on your Pitman arm, Idler arm..pretty much your entire steering system ( I have 37x13.50-20s with HD Tie rods and HD bracketed pittman and idler arms).

-Don't buy into this hype with these crazy fluid change intervals. Read your owners manual and follow that. You can switch between conventional and full synthetic as much as you like. You can even mix them if you want...again, don't buy into the hype.

-I have the Edge CTS Racing Unit (Can't get them anymore, Edge was sued) which allows me to run my DPF Delete Kit. I think its a great system. If that's what you have, stick with it, no need to waste money on another tuner when you already have one.

I think that's about it. I'm not sure why you are getting codes. I have the Edge CTS Racing Unit and when I program, it asks me if I've removed the DPF. I click "yes" and I have never received a code.

Thanks every one great info and I appreciate it. Yea after buying the hot unlock for this cts I'm more than satisfied. As far as shimming the fuel rail how do I go about this? Is there a kit. And thanks 6.6lmm for all that info. I don't plan on lifting it. Maybe a 2 inch lift because it's cheap and would allow for a slightly bigger tire. And I'm gonna do 17s or 18s. My truck doesn't have the dpf but just EGR. The cts doesn't have anything on it about choosing a delete option or not. Oh well guess I'll just have to deal with it.

because yours is a race evo his is a juice..... the race units are okay lot to be gained imo also im betting your egr is still on[/QUOTE]


Dude, please fill me in on this. I'm hearing EGR blocker, EGR Delete, etc. Is that totally different from DPF Delete? I have a section of my exhaust pipe removed and a straight pipe installed. I still have the section with the DPF portion and the hook-ups in my garage. So you are telling me I still need to block something else?

I don't get the "lot to be gained" part.

Yes egr and dpf are two totally different things. Google egr delete it may help you get a better understanding.

Yeah I've done a lot of reading. I'm going to do the PCV myself with help from the local plumbing store and get the full EGR Delete Kit later.

For EGR delete do an lb7 passenger side up pipe and just get and intake tube, best way to block it off I think. Wish I would have done mine that way
