I'm a 16 year Army guy currently stationed near Anchorage, AK and getting ready to finally head back to Texas next spring. I've been a mechanic pretty much my whole life and Army career. I mostly manage maintenance programs now. I'm basically the equivalent of a fleet manager in civilian terms. I've wanted a duramax truck since they first came out but never had a justifiable reason to buy or the money. I had an 04 2500HD gas burner once and loved that truck but always wished it was a dmax. With our impending move and the memories of driving here with three boys, two dogs, and the wife and I in our suburban, I figured a large travel trailer would be better leaving out. So the reasoning and the money finally came together for me to go find one. Dmax trucks are hard to find up here for some reason. There are loads of 6.0 fords and cummins trucks but I have zero luck with fords and mopars. We ended up with a mechanically bone stock 2006 2500HD CC/LB with an LLY. I am impressed. I just put a used edge evo tuner on it and had the chance to scare the wife getting on the highway on level 3 which was loads of fun.

Overall I'm just here trying to absorb knowledge. Before April I plan to add some sort of cat back exhaust and the transgo jr kit.

Thanks for tolerating my ramble.

Phil

Another AK member. Anchorage here. Thank you for your service. Need anything let me know. And Welcome to the site.

My only questions are:

1) How does anyone get around these rediculous shipping costs?

2) Is there a reputable shop in Anchorage? I have heard alot about Rok's and made a trip up there but that's a long way for stuff.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome :thumb:

To answer your questions

1) We don't. Unless you get it through Amazon with their free shipping thing. And then that's not always a guarantee.

2) Don't know of any shops, reputable or not up here. I always did my own work. Just don't have EFILive to play with.

I talked to Rok's about getting exhaust kits and other parts. Looking for a shop in anchorage trying to find a way to pay less shipping. Rok's said they can get an exhaust kit up here for $75 shipping. I just don't like going all the way to Wasilla.

I do all my own work to. I hate the idea of paying labor fees. I have access to a good shop area for the winter so I'm good.

Yeah. Exhaust is easy. Easier if you have a lift. Did mine on the ground with ramps. All in one piece. Still have it to.

I agree with the labor fees bit. The way I look at it, why should I pay someone else to do something that I can do perfectly well myself.

Exhaust is a piece of cake. Roks is good tho. Rok is a good mechanic. Although they say diesel "performance", he mainly does maintenance like injectors, head gaskets, etc.. Hes on the PPE train big time. Doesnt seem to like efi live much. He also wont do much of anything to a trans. He has the best pricing on shipping, but the product is usually more expensive then alot of places.

I'd also be happy to help you however I can. I have a small shop in Wasilla, and access to whatever parts you may want, especially bolt ons. I'm not a diesel shop, and don't claim to be diesel experts, but there isn't much we can't handle on the Duramax trucks. I'll send you a pm.

:welcome7:

My wife won't drive BlkMax any more...she had a cab full of kids on the way to school and loaded the turbo on an on-ramp and then lit it in 2wd. Black smoke, white smoke, truck sideways, boys in back going YaHOO; daughter in front screaming. The wife forgot to turn down the tune....:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:
