heated fuel sump

So as winter gets here, I'm going to make a heated fuel sump to prevent jelling issues. I'm thinking of just getting a coil that has a small thermostat in it. I will make a fuel sump that has an extra thick base to it, cut a notch in the base and insert the coil. Then fill it with something so it won't get snow packed in there and short out or cause problems. Then just run an on off switch to it. I think between that and a filter wrap on the AD it might work out.
Anyone have any ideas to throw at this?

Just make sure the coil doesn't get too hot....

I would run it with a thermostat. And only turn it on below 0*F

What about the factory DEF tank heater on the new trucks?? Dunno if that will be warm enough or cost effective but throwing it out there.

Look at a bowl heater for a 7.3 powerstroke. They are readily available thru Dorman, and I bet the size is very close to the size of the sump. They are immersed in fuel on the Fords, so maybe one could be secured to the bottom of the sump on the inside. Just have to get some fuel-proof electrical connections and drill holes in the sump for them to exit. Not sure if its possible, but worth a look.
