Heat shield question

I am in the process of putting my engine back together for head gasket replacement. Question is how important are the factory heat shields for the manifolds, up-pipes and down pipe? I had a couple of the bolts twist off when removing and if it is not going to be detrimental to the longevity of the truck I dont really want to hassle with drilling and tapping the rusted bolts. I am not opposed to wrapping if it is absolutely necessary.

If you tow heavy and live in hot climate, I’d run them just to keep heat off the firewall. Otherwise I wouldn’t worry

You could always buy a set of Levi's up pipe blankets, if you wanted to upgrade.

I don’t even bother putting the factory shields back on. If there is concern put blankets on everything and it will spool better.

Thanks for the heads up all. I didn't think it would be a major issue but it never hurts to ask.
