Hey guys! Have a 2005 LLY w/ Allison. I live in central IL so it gets a little chilly here in the winter. I noticed the other day on my edge that my TFT was only 20 degrees on initial startup, I always let it run in high idle for pry 10 minutes before i drive and the TFT will pry reach 50 degrees by then. Would putting a heater pad on the bottom of the tranny pan be a bad thing to do? I was just wondering what would happen when the heated transmission fluid from the pan hits the cold fluid from the cooler lines. Didnt' know if it would hurt anything or i can go ahead and put one on there. Let me know what you think.

It will not hurt anything, but it isn't necessary. If you are worried about temps affecting viscosity, find an atf with a low viscosity index number and cold pour point.

The 6.5 in my signature started up and and drove just fine the other morning at 0f. No block heater. I let it warm up for 10 minutes fwiw.

If I remember right, we never saw problems until around -35F.

A stick-on oil pan heater won't hurt. I've put quite a few on over the years for rigs destined for deep sub-zero temps. We installed battery blankets on those rigs too.
