Long story short, truck pushed coolant twice over the summer. Couldn't get it to do it again so I ignored it. Recently swapped the gt5541r on in place of my borg 98mm and now if I go WOT for an extended period of time, it will spit coolant almost every time. Truck is making 85psi boost. Currently running standard arp studs and the "wave lock" Victor reinz gaskets.

Have people prevented this by simply switching to the 625+ studs? Or is oringing it the way to go? I was trying to prevent having to do orings. Unless they can reliably be done in the heads and not the block.

Have people had issues running the 625+ studs and cracking heads?

Idealy I'd like to just do 625 studs, new gaskets and be done with it, but i dont think it's going to be that simple. Unless others had good luck that way.

My truck started doing that over the summer as well. Turns out the radiator cap wouldn't hold pressure  That's a bummer to hear man. I'd be curious what your drive pressures are.

I honestly haven't check since even installing my previous s500. I'll check this weekend. I have a gate I can install if need be. Hopefully that's my main issue.

You may get by with the 625s and new gaskets. The right way would be oring the block. If you oring the heads you pretty much made them disposable.

Why are the heads junk when you Oring them? My machine shop had no trouble doing it and didn't have any doubt in it. Is it too thin on the Oring area to recut them if a resurface is due later on?

Is there a way to fire ring the Duramax block and head (similar to what is commonly done on the Cummins) - where half the receiver groove is cut into the deck surface and the other half is cut into the head? A special head gasket would be required but that shouldn't be that difficult to source. I've never been a fan of o-ring and traditional head gaskets.

From what i was told, the orings end up smashing into the heads rather than clamping the gasket, since the heads are aluminum.

I did fire rings on my cummins and will never go that route again.

Have you heard of many heads cracking after using the 625 studs? Since they require a greater torque.

I am currently making the same boost you are with 625 studs and victor head gaskets, no issues yet...I have GTX4718R paired with a GT4508R.

That's what i figured.

Interesting. What kind of power are you making? Do you run a gate?

Don't know on power have not had it on the dyno, I should know something when I get it to the track in the spring. The 45 is gated but not the 47, the 47 will get a gate after the nitrous is installed.

My machine shop said they will smash in a couple thousandths at most. Said they do it all the time to aluminum heads with no trouble. Hell there is a 4G63 engine they build that makes more boost than us with Orings in the aluminum head.
