I bought some header wrap to wrap my Downpipe. I do not want to melt my Bellhousing blanket!.:) I did not realize I ordered 50' of the 2" wide black stuff. Being that I have lots I am thinking about wraping the Up pipes to.
What do you think?
Good? Bad? WTF it aint mine?

Whats the temp rating on the stuff you got?
Do you run factory heat shields?
Perhaps wrap the air intake???

I would wrap the manifolds if i had all the extra, but thats just me:D

I only have a sheild for the drivers side. The passenger side was covered by the stock LB7 down pipe cover.

The wrap is supposed to be good to 2000F+.

Wraping the intake is not a bad idea.

I wrapped the stock ones on mine and had no problems, but it will casue them to go bad after a long while. The only material that wrap will NOT effect is 321, 347, or inconel. This is not something I made up....it comes straight from Burn's Stainless and many other respected names.

Personally I wouldn't waste my take on the intakes....the air moved through them too fast for it to pick up any heat from the turbing.

Also, when you wrap stuff make sure to get the silicone based paint and paint the wrap...it makes it last a LOT longer:D

I tried, the 2" stuff makes it really hard to do a nice job and keep it tight. I think the 1" would be better/easier. Going over the bellows is when it starts to get shotty.....and be sure to use regular clamps, the quick-ties they recommend don't last after a few heat cycles and the wrap usually loosens up.

Thanks for the tips guys!:) The wrap is soaking right know.

I need to go get clamps then. I bought the recommended ones from DEI. Get a stainless hose clamps? I did buy the spray stuff.

I used 2" and had no prob even on the headers, just have to go slow and take your time. And forget clamps, just take some small SS tie wire and twist 2 pieces together with a drill and use that. Cheaper and looks and works much better:D

Yes John, SS hose clamps.

If you give one a shot, you'll see what I mean. I would probably just use some wire just before and after the bellows....just to keep it tight. That's the area I was unhappy with. I used the clamps because you would crank down and then hit it again after a few heat cycles, not to mention it was a wider contact patch.

Well I decided not to do the up pipes. I did do the Down pipe. You guys are right those strap clamp things are gay. 4" hose clamps worked awesome. The wrap goes on much nicer if you soak it first. I wraped the pipe dry first but it looked like crap. All bunched up. I took the wrap off and let it soak for a couple hours. Much better!
