I'm in the process of re building the engine in my truck I got the heads on but now looking at the L and the R in the head gaskets I'm second guessing my self is it the left or right if I'm standing in front of the motor or if I'm sitting in the truck really hoping I didn't mess up these head gaskets and new bolts

Left is driver side of the engine, right is passenger side of the engine.

Be careful to have the correct side of the gasket up.

But is there actually something wrong with them?

In Canada they are very different in price. $96 compared to $320 for the pair.

They don’t seem to hold up as well from what I’ve seen. I’ve only used 1 set. All our jobs at the shop use Mahle wave stopper. If it’s a close to stock situation you may be alright. Time to get some friends or family in the USA, would save you a big hassle lol.

I have friends in the USA but that doesn't really help much with cost and shipping. I have to add 46% to whatever your cost and shipping is. And also usually 2 more days in shipping time.

The black riveted Mahle gaskets are much better then the gold GM gaskets. We replace cracked gold gaskets all the time up here. Every one failed the same way, broken between the combustion chamber and a bolt hole.
