Has anyone had their transmission go into fast learn by itself?

I'm still having a few tranny issues. Ever since the rebuild I will have days where there isn't a bad shift at all and sometimes it will get funky on the 2-1 downshift. Sometimes barely noticeable and sometimes it's WTF but then it's fine again.

I spoke with Mat and it appears via a scanner that the 2-1 will be in adaptive mode and then occasionally jump to fast learn and back again which would make sense why my trans acts perfect at times and then gets funky and clears up again. It was my understanding that fast learn could only be set via a proper scan/tune tool, so it swapping back and forth leads me to believe the scanner might see it incorrectly or my truck is possessed.

It could be the scanner is wrong (he mentioned something about his Tech 2), but it would explain the peculiar habits of my tranny. I would think if it was mechanical it would do it all the time (or at least more of the time).

Also wondering if my TCM could be messed up. The front end of my truck was damaged in the initial crash in December, not sure if that has anything to do with it as many of the front end pieces were removed/replaced. Maybe they unplugged it and left it open (don't know).

The TCM has never been messed with and the ECM has been running the OEM tune since last October. I hooked the predator to it to pull codes for Mike L when the tranny first went out and I tried hooking my V2 to it to get something other than the generic 0700 tranny code, but was unable to get it to connect with my new work laptop so I gave up.

Mat's working on it and I'm sure he'll take care of me, just thought I would ask if anyone else has seen this peculiar behavior? It figures it would have to be my truck/luck that would have a 1 in a million problem....

Thanks in advance.

Mat at Champion? If its him I wouldnt worry too much as hell get it fixed. Ive never had anything like that. Mine will start shifting funky if I wait too long to change my spin on, or if something isnt quite dialed in on my tune. Other than that no and out of the transmissions Ive built I have never heard of that.

Yeah, I trust Mat, that's not the issue. He always tells me what's going on when I call and is a straight shooter. I have and will continue to recommend him. That being said nobody knows it all or has seen it all, so I thought I would put it out there for the group as somebody may have come across it. Several members have had head scratching issues fixed after posting it online as we have a large knowledge pool (one of the reasons I am a member of many forums).

Stacks: If this was my "first" built trans I probably would have thought that it was "normal", but my stock trans never did it and after Merchant built it there was never a 2-1 issue (ever), so I knew it was not normal and wanted to find out the reason. I would have lived with it but did not want to find out that it was a sign of future issues and be at fault for not having it taken care of. How often does yours do it and how bad? Who built yours? I would describe my issue as a "clunk" as well as you can actually here it with the windows rolled down. At first it was so bad it would activate the ABS when it would clunk but it hasn't done that for a while.

Try changing you tune.

i have had a bunch of differant tunes in mine. including stock ecm. still did it. tcm is stock also. like i said though it doesnt do it often enough to make me look into it. also would a tune dramatically affect the 2-1 down shift. usually it is a zero throttle foot on brakes shift for me. i know for a fact i havent messed with the idle tables at all.

mike i talked to you about this along time ago when i originally had trans done and was running the copilot. your suggestion then was to disconnect it(copilot) and i have since sold it so it is completely removed and it made a dramatic differance in the frequency of it at the time, hence the reason i never persued it.

Try changing you tune.

It's running the OEM ECM tune and the virgin TCM tune, so I would think that there should be no issues with them, but to help elliminate the ECM tune as a point of possible issues, if it does it when I get it back I will try that. I'm hoping Mat will have it straightened up before I get it back though.

I have had several documented issues with tuning the truck via the Predator and EFI Live (lockup and no start condition) so I try to not do it unless necessary. Others have tried to program it (to take the human error factor out of the equation) and it's done it them, so I know it's not me. Again, it's one of those 1 and million odds that hits me or my trucks.

X2

I forgot to mention that, but that is a big "factor" in when/if it will happen.

It seems like it's always when my foot is on the brakes and no foot on the gas. To experiment I shifted it down manually via the tap shifter with my foot on the throttle and accelerating and it never did it, but if I tap shifted it down when my foot was off the throttle it would............

It's funny how both of ours are doing almost the same thing. Hopefully if they get mine figured out it will help yours as well.
