My brother served a mission in Florida and met a guy in Apopka that built beautiful knives. (also met the guy from duraburb, which my bro said was super cool) He was pretty cool and taught him how to make his own. My Brother built a knife for my dad, but didn't treat the leather correctly on the sheath, so it has cancer on the blade. I guess church and knives go hand in hand. lol.

Wow that's sweet....Lol I guess so but I just learned that same thing when you store you knife take it out of the sheath cause most of the leather used for sheaths are treated with salt and it also hold moisture and unless you use you knife everyday it will get some surface rust on the blade....also tell your bro thank you for spreading the word I know it's hard sometimes being in the mission field

Looks good and good job. :thumb::thumb:

What did you use, an old metal file? I know guys at work that have made them using old files, they stay really sharp being it's hardened steel.

Thank you sir I've forgot that's sad ain't it lol ill find out tomorrow it's still all new to me...but no it's not a file the guy teaching me has made some out of files....but you have to forge them to what shape blade you won't and you have to I'm going to say heat treat but I not sure if that's right but you have to to pull the hardness out of the file cause there so hard they will brake very easy

That's funny. My first hand made knife was in a church young mens group. Wishing I still had it. Had a blast making it.
