Here is my situation. Just bought a Silver 06 GMC. (I'll get some pics up soon but it's just a stock CC/SB) anyway, I'm wanting to put all black accents on the truck; wheels, etc... but it has the chrome body side molding. I know I can easily remove it but I'm concerned that my truck will become a door ding magnet. Is it possible to paint the chrome ones black and stick them back on? I've never seen stock solid black body sides on any trucks.

Wonder if you could just tape off around them and scuff them up and bit and then paint them? Either way you do it I think it would look pretty cool.

Cause I think you could just about get the tape behind the edge of the moulding. The you wouldn't have to worry about getting an adhesive that is as good as the factory stuff. I wanna see pic when your done too. :)

John I talked to a paint shop friend about it for you and he said it wouldn't stay on that material. it is different than the painted side moldings that come on some trucks.

No holes. I took mine off because they would collect dirt and nasty looking black stuff behind it and would never clean up right. I'd rather take my chances with a door dinger.

Your idea to paint the chrome pieces is good if your truck was just for show. However, when they get dinged, that black paint will probably chip and then you will see a chrome spot underneath. Touch up would also be a pain. Just my opinion, I think these trucks look much better with them removed.

My trucks been de-everything'd as far as moldings and badges go and I haven't got a single ding from someone elses door. This could be cause I'm an ahole in most parking lots and take up a space and a bit most of the time!!:spit:

There's no holes behind any of the moldings except the tailgate cap. Which is really gay!!

ahem...
i had a friend paint the chrome backings on the side mirrors black and it never had a problem. he skuffed the chrome up real good, primered them, then painted them. he let them sit for about a week though. rain, bugs, etc never messed them up any and he had them like that for over 2 years...then he sold the truck.

i'm sure it the mirrors can take bug abuse, then the moldings will be fine.
