the wheel or the housing?

Both but mainly the wheel. With the S475 you just have alot more options on turbine wheel sizes. In T4 you can get an 83mm which is similar to a GT42 turbine (a little smaller IIRC) and good for a single turbo to be responsive; or the 87mm which will give up some streetability as a single but will make more power up top. If you step up to a T6 (what most people use for twins) you can get the 83, 87 or 96mm turbine wheels.

If they gated the GT42 it might do okay but still won't perform as well as a charger with a bigger turbine side.

I was under the impression that the 42 was too small to be the big turbo in a twin setup.
Our local shop did this to a kodiak and a week later it broke a pistion !

I doubt it was from choosing that turbo , i would have used a bigger turbo for that kodiak mainly because of the extra weight on board , it is going to need a bit more air then our trucks .
