I think I can get a rebuilt GT 4042 for fairly cheap, and I've got two questions.

1 Is it worth upgrading from the stock turbo in the LLY?

and/or

2 Could it be turned into a GT 4088?

Thanks for the help!

For sheer power and racing this is a great turbo! For towing it would be horrible. For somthing in between I would go with a GT4094. You should ask Pat because he has all the specs on these chargers. He also has real time data on how these chargers really react daily driving, towing, dyno and track.

4042?

Look at the sticky thread,"What turbo is right for me"?:)

you need to decide what you want? Turbo selection is probably the hardest desicion us power addicts face:D

Yes 4042, old school rebuilt off a Detroit Diesel. I don't think Garrett makes 4042's anymore and that's why I'm asking.

a) If it'd be a decent choice as is

and/or

b) If it could be made into a 4088 or 4094 by just putting in a different exducer wheel?

I don't know for sure, it's not actually a GT series. It's the older 60 series off of a Detroit and it is a 4042 unfortuantely that is all the info I have on it at the moment.

I've never heard of it before, but I figured there was an old gearhead on here somewhere that may have some experience with it.
