Can anyone give me some insight on how to install a Grizzly locker. I do have a dial indicator and from what I gather it's not too bad but I don't want to mess anything up either.

This is what I understand.

Place locker in run adjuster until there is 0 backlash.
spin adjuster out 2 holes.
Tighten opposite side adjuster until you start to spin the race then spin 2 more holes tighter.
Check backlash
adjust until you have .005" - .008" backlash

Does that sound about right? Am I missing anything?

instead of spinning the left adjuster back out 2 holes first, I get the gears seated, tighten both adjusters (new bearings and oiled, with the caps finger tight), spin the carrier a few times each way to seat the bearings, adjust the left nut out slightly and follow the same amount with the right nut until just snug. Then check backlash. Do this until you have your clearance, then preload the bearings equally (roughly 2 holes, but mainly until you can install the locks. Then torque the caps and recheck. Finally, change accordingly because it usually changes when you torque the caps. Each time you loosen the nuts, play it safe and rotate the carrier a few times to really make sure the bearings are fully seated. Also, depending on how beat the pinion bearing is, check it's condition too. Then once it's all torqued and you think you're done, throw a inch-lb torque wrench on the pinion nut and check the total rotating torque of the assembly. It should be somewhere close to 55 in-lbs

Thank you very much for the info!

The install went pretty good and not as bad as I thought for my first time!

My only remaining question is do I need any special additive for the locker?

No additives needed since it does not have clutch packs like a limited slip diff., but I would use a good synthetic gear lube.:thumb:

No test video's!!!

Well now I feel like an idiot I knew there wasn't clutch packs in it!

Maybe one day I'll get some test videos. Maybe it'll be drifting around a cul-de-sac over in your neck of the woods. :thumb:
