Hello everyone.

I have a 2016 Chevy 2500 hc With 176,xxxkms. And noticed it a lot more on colder weathers or when the truck sits for a longer period of time a strange noise comes front of the engine compartment at idle but once I drive down my driveway the noice goes away like nothing happened n runs fine same with idleing I’m hinting for the idler or one the pulleys going out but any tips or feed back would be appreciated I do have a video but no idea on how to post it

upload to YouTube then post the link here.

noises are one of the hardest ones to diagnose over the internet. even with a video.

you will likely need to be our ears and tell us what's making the noise then we can direct you on repairs if needed

maybe an idler pulley? can you pull the belt and feel how smooth the bearings in each pulley are?

Imma do it when I get back home. But driving the truck all day then when I went to fuel up I heard it again that scratching noise like it comes and goes then it doesn’t come for a while it’s literally a hit n miss.

Give the alternator a good spin too. Cycle the a/c compressor also and see if anything changes.

as just mentioned above, alternator bearings can do that along with the tensioner and idler bearings. sometimes you can find them if you hit the bearing with a shot WD-40 while the engine is running and it's making noise. doesn't work for the alternator though

Okay I’ll give that a shot too. But has that happened before to anyone with the hit n misses from that sound?

yes, but as I said, noises can be hard to identify and everyone will hear it differently so it's hard to compare to others at times

I wasn’t able to check the bearings out but the idler pulleys look pretty rough on there but everything else looks right and when i turned on the truck the sound wasn’t there ran it for 20 minutes

Replace the tensioner and idler pulleys. When they start to make occasional noise like that, its past time to replace them.
