Couple goof-ups in there, but generally a really good video IMO that gives a great visual of how a clutch-to-clutch automatic transmission like the Allison works. If you've ever wondered just how exactly "only" 3 planetary gearsets and clutches can work together to give you 6 forward gears and 1 reverse gear, take a look at this video.

LOL Guess not.

Just thought maybe since the trend was going 1-5, 1-4, 1-3, 1-2, 2-3, 2-4.... So thought maybe there could be a third OD if 2-5 were possible. Or did I misunderstand the sequence?

No, I don't think you misunderstood. Or, maybe we both are misunderstanding cuz I was wondering the same thing.

You are correct in the sequence but this pics shows exactly why , the C-2 hub is splined directly to the P-2 carrier / P-3 ring gear , so if you engage both C-2 and C-5 at the same time it will either stall the motor out and go into a skid or break the hub in half :baby: , likely it would just strip the spline but either way .................... = no fun

Great video. I'm learning about the Allison transmissions in school right now and it helped me understand a little more
