there is no grease fitting from gm that i know of. i drilled the sleeve of my original iss and put a zerk in it with no luck in taking up the slack in the joint. you just need to replace the shaft. it takes less than an hour to do by yourself. :)

i take the steering shaft out of the truck and pull the little u clip on the one end out and just pump grease in with the grease gun. it usually lasts about 50,000 miles before it needs to be done again.

Take it out, clean all the grease up, fill with RTV, re-install and let it sit over night. Or just spend the 100 bucks on the revised shaft, both options will work well.;)

the replacement shaft is that an OEM part or aftermarket, and if it is an aftermarket who sells them. Because i can't take the noise anymore it's driving me crazy.
Thanks

from what i have been reading the new shaft still pops and thats why i never bought the updated version. for the 15 min it takes i would just grease it. mine lasts around 50,000 miles before it starts again. I use wheel bearing grease it holds up to the engine bay heat a whole lot better

The part #19153614 and GM Parts direct has them for $50.30 some kind of sale. They must be stuck with them. I am doing the grease fitting today also, and the 2 inch clamp next to the white collar, see what happens.

well mine was clunking where the lower column bearing was, in the column it self, not the shaft. i replaced that bearing, there is very little clunk now. but im curious, do you all put the grease fitting at the lower part of the column near that lower column bearing? also can someone tell me how that shaft comes out of the steering column?

alright, took my intermediate shaft out, it had no slop in it. but i still took it apart and greased the hell out of it. then i looked at my new lower steering column bearing i installed. it seemed like it wanted to fluncuate a little in the column it self and between the bearing and shaft. so what i did, was i took toyota FIPG a sealed the bearing between the shaft, but not where the bearings where, so that way the shaft would still rotate. then i sealed the bearing assembly to the column. no more rattle!
