Found a 04 lb7 sc/lb zf6 with a5k and 45% ddp for a decent price 160,000miles

Im gonna make it a full time Puller... just have a few questions

Should I put a auto instead of manuel? (It still has stock clutch)

Should I run duals in the rear or 33x15.50 all the way around?

Should I switch turbos?

Im not puttin the 30% in my lmm now .. im sellin them if anybody interested

Ill post pics later.. im on cellphone so bare with me

The a5k with a 2.6 cover is a pretty good setup I would like the allison for the trans vs the zf6 if you are gonna make it a comp truck only I would get some 4.52 gears in it run duals and buy a good alli locker

First thing I would do would be find a set of stock keys for the front so you can slam it, traction bars, sleeves, braces, reinforce the hitch...that will atleast get you pulling then you can add or change it up later.

Loaded question... What the pulling scene is in your area as well as how well you want to do will dictate what you need to do.

1) no way would spend the $$$ to swap to an Allison. While some consider the auto advantageous, I doubt it's worth the cost & hassle of the conversion. Plus, if the classes there req big chargers to compete, you'll like your ability to light the large charger easier with zf6 vs alli since you'll be able to launch at a much higher rpm. Ask rhall how much fun he had lighting johnboy's charger with his auto trans. ;) or ask bullfrog how much fun he's had lighting big chargers with auto.

2) there are TONS of options for chargers from mild to wild. From new cover for the current a5k to billet wheeled $4500 chargers. Just depends on your funds & what you'll need to be competitive in your area.

Also sounds like you need to address some of the basic upgrades for the susp. I couldn't look at df thread.

Im gonna keep the zf6 for now to see how I like it.... but ill keep u in mind:thumb:

ill prolly just run a 2.6 cover on the a5k... were can I get one?

And u guys think duals or 33x15.50?

Im gonna slam the front and put a 4 inch block in the back for weight distribution

Hopefully get 600 horse Outta this set up and be pullin next year:D

Duals & hood stacks are ok here in 2.6 but that's the kicker, rules vary. You need to look up the rules for the organization(s) you'll be pulling with or at the least, what the brushpulls allow if there aren't any sanctioned classes around.

Really, that's first & foremost before I'd even spend a $1 on anything. ;). Know them rules forwards & backwards!

Keep the ZF6!!! Put a good clutch in it and save a lot of money and time. Doing the basic chassis setup will help the most. Shouldn't have a problem with either duals or 33x15.50. The 33x15.50 would probably be less expensive up front. I would suggest against the rear blocks but that is just me. Good luck with the new puller and have fun!!
