First off.. this is my first post.. Hi all.

I'm going to look at a 2002 LB7? Duramax. It's a crew cab, 86k miles, and has a pretty big lift on it.

My biggest concern as you may have guess is the injector issue. I read up about it on here alot but i'm still a little unclear. I called my local chevy dealer and had them run the vin. The injectors were replaced in 04 with 30somethingK miles, and the glow plugs in 06. It's my understanding that the injector failure may not be the injectors at all rather what controls them. Something about too high of voltage or not enough fuel pressure to them, or both. My question is, if the injectors were swapped out already, what are the chances the problem is solved?

Secondly, like i said it has a lift and therefor larger tires. How does the Allison in the 02's handle not so much the extra wieght to move them, more the RPM changes and shifting more due to the actual size? I don't know how big the tires are yet, but they look like 37's.

Any help would be great as I really want this truck, and i can afford it, but the huge repair bills might drown me.

Welcome!

First off injectors...personally I don't think there is a fix for them, they all go bad. My original set went 115K.

Second the lift...again this is my personal opinion, a lift and bigger tires is putting alot of additional stress on the suspension components and expect them to wear out alot quicker. As for the Alli, I wouldn't worry about it under stock power.

Another thing to consider...

An '03+ LB7 is alot more succeptible to an LLY swap...its basically plug and play to my understanding. The '01-'02 LB7 it takes alot more to get the electronics to properly communicate...if at all.

If i found a GMC 03+ I'd consider it, but I really dislike the front end on the 03-07 Chevs.

Right there with ya. BUT with a little creativeness and some paint you can make it look good. Im talking bout like mine but with NBS. Paint the lower valance, upper bumper pad, grille, and wiper cowl along with the mirror (not chrome part) and handle and bezels and I promise those things will look ALOT better.

Im sure someone here has it done on a 03-07. Id show you mine but its 01.
