I am curious if a nbs interior would retrofit into the 01-07 classic trucks? I am thinking about doing it, if it is feasible. I am talking the dash and everything. Physically I wonder if it can be done and also electrically without a whole lot of crap. Has anyone done it or tried it?

Electrically I'm thinking you'd have to strip the modules and wiring out of the new dash and try to adapt the GMT800 wiring and modules. The two trucks are a lot different electrically, GMT900's run on GMLAN communications, and the later model 800's run on CANBUS. Everything works and communicates differently, so getting GMT800 underhood electronics to communicate with GMT900 interior electronics would be difficult, if not impossible.

GMT800s have seatbelts internal to the seats where the GMT900s have seatbelts mounted on the B-Pillar.

arrghhhhh bang my head against a walllllllllllllllll.

GMT-800's USED CLASS 2 DATA BUS FOR BODY COMMS. CLASS 2 IS NOT THE SAME AS CAN.

and "CANBUS" is thrown around as if it refers to "anything data related that goes around in any vehicle. CAN is CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK. The "BUS" just refers to a databus. You can have CAN BUS (CAN, space, BUS), CLASS 2 BUS, K-LINE BUS, SCI BUS, etc etc etc etc....

GMLAN "is" a variation of CAN.

I did a write up to clear all of the misconceptions, because everyone seems to have their own interpretation of how these trucks are wired/bussed. This should be a sticky.

After digging for a couple of weeks trying to understand why the buses on my 07 LBZ act different than earlier models do I came across this post and Duratothemax's sticky. What a goldmine! Thanks Duratothemax for the great info!
